In the spirit of my project thread, what are the recommendations on dry start after a 20 year sit? It's a little late but I'll tell you what I did... After all the necessary cleaning (tank, carbs, filters, and so on), I drained the oil which was clean and full. Then I removed the tappet covers and spark-plugs. I poured about a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder and about a tablespoon on the valves and springs. I then slowly kicked the starter a few full rotations. Finally I filled all the fluids and reinstalled good plugs and after a few good cranks and a smoke screen, she fired up and idled pretty nice considering the carbs aren't tuned or synced. I only ran it a few seconds because it was pouring outside and my garage is under the kitchen. Now I'm awaiting engine covers from the powder coater so i can take it outside and warm it up. Anything I missed that I should have done?
