Couple of case reassembly questions

I've got most of my parts in for my CB550 bottom end and now I have a couple of questions regarding reassembly. 

1. With the gears and shift forks all in place, do I need to align everything a certain way before putting the case halves together?  I can't seem to find anything on this in the manual.  Does it matter how the forks fall when you reassemble the cases? 

2.  Today I bought some Threebond 1194 and a little jar of assembly lube.  While poking around at the bike shop I saw a paste like bearing adhesive to put around bearings like the one the primary shaft goes through.  I'd never heard of such a product before and can't figure out why it's necessary?  Do I need it?  I hope not because I didn't buy it (it was 32.99  :o )

3.  Any other relevant information I should have that isn't shown clearly in the manual?

i have no idea about what your talking about but isnt everything in the lower end of our engine submerged in oil?

The oil is in the sump on wet sump engines. I don't think anything is actually submerged.
Assembly lube on the mains is good, cam "bearings" too. I've never used any $$$ plain bearing lube, I try and put some Redline assembly lube on them when I put the transmission etc. together but I don't lose sleep over it if I don't. If the parts are dry I dip them in oil before assembly or dribble a bit onto them.
The selector forks have to be properly in place and I usually set the transmission in neutral after shifting through the gears with the case open first to check that it all works: you have to jiggle the sprocket or clutch shaft to get the gear dogs aligned to shift if the engine isn't turning. It doesn't matter what gear it's in, you can find neutral after assembly.
Put a thin coating of 3-bond on all (very clean!) sealing surfaces and follow the instructions re wait time before assembly. Tighten the big studs in 3 steps (a turn past snug, a few ft-lbs below final, final) to final torque, following the order in the manual each time. Then torque the smaller case fasteners but be careful approaching spec torque... bolts into the case are notoriously easy to strip threads out on.

I am in the same boat as far as assembly goes. How do you find neutral with the case open?

From memory you fit the shafts into the case that has the selectors in (top I think) then lay the crank with rods and primary chin in and then the primary sprocket into the chain complete with starter gear bolt the cases together and fit the primary shaft with spacers/bearings in the right place

Observe the little detent wheel on the locating arm and  the side of the shift drum, there is  a notched spot on the drum that sort of locks the drum in neutral...Larry

Thanks for the tips folks.  So basically I want the transmission in neutral before assembly, right?  I'm having trouble understanding how I then lay the shift drum assembly down onto the gears when I assemble the two halves.  Will they only fall one way if I have the transmission in neutral?

And an addendum:
Where do I need loctite?  I didn't take the con rods off or anything.  Should I put some kind of thread lock on all the case bolts?
