Dead second gear?
« on: July 07, 2011, 01:43:46 PM »
Hey guys/gals, i have an issue with my 74 750K.  I have lost 2nd gear.  It holds without any throttle, but the minute i roll on, it drops back to neutral.  I have had several people tell me it is the "dog gear" that has failed.  I have been looking around for a replacement motor with little success, (most everyone around here is rebuilding them and selling them for nealry $2.5k)

What do you all suggest that I do?  I would rather not scrap it, but at the same time doing a complete teardown and rebuild is beyond my capabilities, both financially and mechanically.

Thanks!
-Dave

Wait for an engine to come up on CL or Feebay or call up moto bone yards, they have engines if you call the right people.

Usually has to do with the PO flogging the living crap out of the bike.

Yep, the bike has been in the family for about 8 years, but prior to that it was a drag bike.  So flogged it has been.

Only downside is, now i have no bike to ride:(
