Update -> 9/9/06
Got the tank Line-X'ed this morning by a buddy of mine.

He did the bed of my 2006 F-150 SuperCrew, and I liked the finish so much I thought what better to put on my bike.
Came out great, and I now officially have the most indestructible CB tank in the world  ;D No worries about dumping fuel on it, scratching it, etc...

Added some weight, but I evened it out with the weight I removed from the bike a few days back.
Have a Lucas brand triumph headlight bucket that is gonna getr sprayed to match once I sort a few issues out, then I need to spraypaint the sidecovers to match (cant line-x plastic).
I can safely say I prob. have the worlds only CB750 with a 21'' front wheel and a Line-X'ed tank... ;D

Let the commets begin...

JUST AN FYI TO ALL CERAMIC/ENAMEL RATTLECAN USERS !
Have fun sanding off the paint ! This crap is like concrete, and doesn't like to be sanded, as it just balls up and ruins the sandpaper you are using. I had to break out a wire wheel and high speed drill and literally chip off the paint. It didn't help I had two entire cans of black sandable primer along with 3 or so cans of enamel paint on the tank either ::) Their had to be atleast 3 lbs. of paint on that thing, but it is all clean now, and the tank is ready for it's final "finish" (coming this Saturday) ;D

three words: jasco paint remover. spray it on, and within 3 minutes, all that paint bubbles up and rinses right off. won't win any awards with the EPA, but hey, at least we're riding around on machines that get 10 times the gas milage as a hummer, right?

I wish I knew that before I spent two days using a wire wheel to get the paint off.
Oh well - dont have to worry about painting my tank EVER again now...

Pro,

Just throw a set of knobby tires on that bike and hit the logging roads.  You can have a dual sport CB750.  You have to rename you bike, call it "Nukeproof".

oh yeah, or you could pretend like you don't want the paint to come off at all, spill gasoline on it while filling up, and it'll all come right off... ::)

You can def. feel the texture thru your jeans, as I am sure it would tear up my knees if I were to wear shorts while riding.
Did it once before, but the thought of my bare skin dragging across the pavement made me think twice about doing it again.
Not that jeans would be much of a help , but it would do something i am sure..

I took the bike out last night for alittle spin, and everyone I ran into was all about the tank.
I got comments from , "I never thought of that" to "That looks very minimal / industrial and badass.."
So from what I can tell the new finish is accepted, not that I need peoples approval, though it is nice.

Next is to get the triumph/Lucas headlight bucket sandblasted so I can get it Line-X'ed to match, and find some crinkle
spraypaint and try to get the plastic sidecovers to look Somewhat like the tank. I think I am gonna have the bars done as well, and maybe a few other pieces. Before I know it I will have the worlds fist 650lbs. CB750  ::) ;D

i've seen that "paintjob" in person...went to pick up a bike with a friend, and the P.O. had done the tank the same way, having a buddy that could do it for free. looks cool...kinda mad maxish.

Jeans really don't do anything in a crash, other than disintegrate. Yes, they're better than shorts, but I know in my experience, when you land on your knees in a crash, regular jeans just explode.

Thanks buddy , always a plus to hear positive comments for the things I put this bike thru  ;D
flat black, then gloss black, now line-x. If you paint it once more you will have tied me for tank paint jobs. ;D
I am def. done with the tank on this bike (4 now).
I have some oldschool Honda wing emblems I might put on the sides of the tank , but I am still unsire about that.
Need to have a few more crown royal's & Cokes and think about it before I go thru with it.

Took another pic today in the alley.

It was right before it rainned , so thus the crappy lighting.
Only issue with this tank is everyone is gonna want to touch it  ;D
I should get a sticker made that reads -->
" Please touch owner not tank "
 ;D

Bike has come a long long way from when I bought it.....

lookin good, just wonderin how a decal would go on the rough finish, would it bubble.... just a though, though you could probably do a mask/stencil better, just some ideas..

I am sure a decal on the surface would look like crap, as it would not allow proper adhesion.
The Honda emblems I have are just that , a actual emblem , not a sticker.
I think if I removed the mounting pins, and got my hands on some industrial glue/mounting stuff they would be fine..

Nicey, looks  really great & interesting. I don't know about the emblems. I use an angle grinder and wire wheels to take off paint works well (on metal).

No one asked, but I'd volunteer that doing the sidecovers too will ruin the overall look. What makes the tank work is that it's unique (on the bike, never mind anywhere else). Add that stuff to the sides and you lose the drama and get a look that says, "He had a leftover can of this stuff and decided to spray everything else he could find so as not to waste it."

I think a set of black shocks on the rear would be nice, and would improve handling over the stockers.  Black front fork lowers would look nice too, as would black headlight ears - just to allow the black to flow a bit more from front to back.

You could go all out and do this (a local powdercoating shop did it up):

Roule comme dans les années 70...   Roll as in the Seventies...

I see what you are saying, but I also don't want the tank to be the focal point of the bike.
If I had some knee inserted wicked custom thing then yes, but not my stock one..
I am gonna experiment with a rattlecan crinkle finish and see how it matches up.
Doesn't have to be a perfect match, as long as it has some texture to it similar to the tank...
I am having my Lucas headlight bucket line-x'ed to match this weekend, which should look killer...
I think a set of black shocks on the rear would be nice, and would improve handling over the stockers. Black front fork lowers would look nice too, as would black headlight ears - just to allow the black to flow a bit more from front to back.
The headlight ears are gonna stay brushed because I have a headlight bucket that is soon to be Line-X'ed as well. The brushed headlight ears and headlight trim ring will contrast nice against the line-x'ed bucket I think..The lower legs are either gonna get powdercoated or line-x'ed over the winter (not sure which one yet). The rear shocks would look good in black, but I don't feel like spending more money on this bike now then I have to. Might remove and do alittle rattlecanning on them.
We shall see...
Nice, looks  really great & interesting. I don't know about the emblems.
I have decided against the emblems for now, atleast on this bike.
I am gonna stick with a sold line-x'ed tank, and do other little small things to tie everything together..

ProTeal55,

I was wondering if  you found more dirt/oil on your cloth and engine after you took off chain guard and front fender ? I  upgraded the sprocket to 530 and my old chain guard is sticking way out so I was pondering were the oil will sputter if I take it out ..
if it ain't broken it does not have enough features yet..

Wicked cool!  I think it has that "Project X" look, and the lack of any emblems works for the look.  If you added anything, mebbe a tiny emblem -- so small that people would have to get up close to read -- in the bottom corner of the tank would work.
