I am opening my carbs up for the first time right down to the jet removal. I have had issues for a long time related to low power up in higher revs and have a post somewhere here about it. While trying the usual fixes for this bike (removing air cover, draining overflow tubes, etc) I decided to remove the carbs and soak them in Pinesol. It helped, but I think things got stirred up worse as the bike is running rough at low speed and high speed now. I also placed an inline fuel filter in and the tank looks very clean inside.
Long story short, I hope to replace those annoying rubber tees between carbs 1&2 and 3&4 but I am waiting on parts. In the meantime I soaked the carbs for 24 hours in Pinesol and just removed the jets this morning. Here's what I found so far:
-one long needle from the upper chamber was bent inside and needs to be replaced.
-luckily on this model the low speed jet is not pressed in and can be removed. High and low jet holes are not completely plugged with calcium, but need a lot of compressed air ran through.
-one pilot screw does not have a small O ring present
-almost sure the accelerator pump rod that goes into the short rubber tube does not have an O ring there either.
Question:
I can get 4 complete rebuild kits with new jets, O rings, needle jets, etc but for this bike they will cost $140 for all 4 carbs. Is it worth it to replace them as new (no idea if they ever were) or clean, clean, clean???
Thanks guys
