What are these mods?
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:38:30 AM »

Obviously I understand that pretty much the whole bike is modded. But I'm wondering what the rear brakes are, can I buy that tank because it is amazing, what is under the seat if the oil is in the fuel tank, etc, etc...

Is this actually an old bike, or just a b&w picture?

I like the minimalist exhaust too  ;)

I wish I had that bike!

That's a partially disassembled CR750.

Real one? I don't know. Haven't looked at it long enough.
No.

Yup, Katy.  But it has nothing to do with her being a K8!

The rear brake is a cable operated twin leading shoe rear brake, part of the race kit I suppose.  I don't know where you'd find something comparable.

The fuel tank can be had in fiberglass or aluminum, depending on how much you want to spend:

http://www.overracing.com/shop/Aluminium-Fuel-Tank_CRCH01.html

http://www.meadspeed.com/products/honda/cr750/fuel-tank

The oil tank is under the seat:

http://www.meadspeed.com/products/honda/cr750/oil-tank

Then you need dual disks, shouldered aluminum rims, exhaust, etc.

Don't forget about the magnesium engine cases and the special frame.  There is almost nothing stock about those 4 original bikes.  Here's the CR thread from the hi performance section http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=27902.0  almost everything you ever wanted to know about the Mann bike.

Blitzburg: that is one of the 4 bikes that was prepared to race at Daytona in 1970.  No one knows if that particular bike was the race winner ridden by Dick Mann.  Those bikes disappeared shortly after Daytona.  Most  CR experts believe the Mann bike was shipped back to Japan for the examination, disassembled and never put back together.  There have been a few people to claim ownership of one of the original 4 bikes.  One guy in Canada claims to have one and another in France.  The French bike was examined by experts and deemed not one of the 4, though there is still a debate about it.  The Canadian bike doesn't have the right parts on it and although it may contain some race parts is doubtful to be one of the original 4.  This forum is filled with deatils about those original 4 bikes.  Member KOS is probably the foremost expert on the Daytona bikes.

That's no cafe racer, that's a factory racer.

Finding a 240mm CR spec rear drum is impossible. They only came with the race kit, of which only a few were made. If there's an accurate alternative, besides the magnesium one from M3 (that's something like $3k), I'd like to know.

Funny that someone would confuse an original CR750 with a 'modded' bike.

Sorry man... give me a break! - 1970 was 18 years before I was born! - I'm still bringing myself up to speed! haha  ;)

No I was talking about the top triple - it looked "thinner" than the "standard" top triple on these bikes.  But now I understand that it's most likely a specialized factory top triple that was part of the cr kit.
The oil tank is under the seat:
Got it now  :) The way that picture is it looked to me like the line was running to the tank when it's actually going to a cooling radiator right?

Being new to motorcycles, I've never really researched moto racing, but it's become fascinating to me now.  I researched cr's and the famous 1970 Daytona race for hours the other day, watched some videos, and looked at some replicas - very interesting.  Are mechanical failures as big of a deciding factor in today's races with modern bikes?

It's hard to see in that pic, but there is a small oil cooler under the head stock.

No, modern race bikes, at least on the international level, are remarkably dependable.  Every now and then somebody will blow one up but by and large they don't fail.  This is really impressive in MotoGP where each rider is, per the rules, allotted only 6 engines for the entire 18 race season.

It's there on Speed - the AMA SB, AMA Supercross, WSB and MotoGP at least, maybe others too.  Check the schedule:

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.
