cb750 transmission question - best year, K or F ?
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:18:57 pm »
Hello everyone...got a transmission ('72) that has fourth gear going out in it, and getting stuff together to tear the engine down...

After doing some reading on the forums, have learned that Honda played around with the gear ratios, but began wondering, was there any particular year which was preferred over another?  If so, why?  I understand that the answer might be varied because of the various front/rear sprocket combos over the years, too, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

The first three gears are the same ratio.  4th gear for the K is 1.097:1 and 5th gear is 0.939:1.  For the F, 4th is 1.133:1 and 5th gear is 0.969:1

Just depends on what you want out of your bike.  For a highway cruiser the K gearing may be a bit better and for ripping around town and through the twisties the F gearing may be a bit better.

Well ....I know people like to think everything about the K0 is better and different but.... no....it's the same for all years of the 750K. ;)

Gear ratios started changing with the 75 F and 76 F1 then that tranny was used in the 77 K7 and 78 K8 as well as the 77 F2 & 78 F3. 4th is 1.133 and 5th is 0.969. These would be a bit sportier like Steve says.

Yeah, I didn't catch that.  The 77/8 K has the same gearing as the F bikes.  The K0 thru K6 have the same gearing.
