sickness or hobby?
« on: July 10, 2011, 07:19:10 PM »
I think I have it bad for these SOHC's now... I continue to look for deals and I think I may have come across another which I may not be able to pass up...

When did you feel you may have been hooked, what was an indicator, and what does the lady think about it?

Anyways I may be looking at this new one tomorrow...

Price does seem a little step though....

Shoot, I even stumbled across these...

It's a sickness and it appears you may have a bad case!

That 350 looks sweet, more valuable in original cond like that.
Does it have a title? And tires that old cannot be trusted.
Make him an offer!

His listing states "900 or best offer", so he won't be offended byan offer.
If it runs good, 700 sounds fair, 500 a steal.

It's definitely a sickness...

The only known cure is to continue to feed the addiction...

Yeah, I'm in Madison on the West side. I dont buy a bike unless I can get it for less than $500. My K was given to me to get it out of a driveway. My F I paid $150. So $1500 is way out of the initial price range for me.
Now granted no bike I buy is anywhere near running condition. Thats what makes it fun for me. Complete rebuilds. That way I know I can trust the machine.

I'll be heading to Rockerbox. I have a buddy who lives downtown who rides a stock 78 550K, I know he'll be there as well. I think it has been talked about all of us meeting up somewhere and riding down.

Plus if you're around and the bike is in good shape. I'll be headed over there Sunday July 31st (might be Monday... cant remember at the moment) to meet forum member Old Scrambler for the SOHC4 World Tour.

World tour? What is this you speak of? I should be getting my bike back tomorrow or Thursday at the latest... by then I should also have my new tires in, my new headlight and turn signals. I want to keep the bike stock but i did order me some superbike bars..... You know how to wrench?? If so maybe you would be interested in helping me learn how to put on the new bars? I could pay you but would like to learn how to do it as well....

Yeah, I can help you put the bars on. I'm over that way pretty often (I went to MSOE, so I still know a lot of people there). PM me and we can set something up.

I am going to the Tuesday place you mentioned as a local stop... I think its on 124th and Capitol.. If my Cb isn't done tomorrow I will be taking my KZ... When I change out the handle bars, do I need to get new hand grips? Also if you know anyoen interested in a saddle bag set for their 550 let me know.... You can look up pictures of my CB on here with the bags on it.

hey Stev-o, I know a bunch of peeps told me to keep the bike stock which I am. Minus the superbike bars I ordered today... Do you have any experience with these and with euro bars? If so, do I have to do any modifications to the bars to have the superbike ones function properly? Not to sound dumb, but i knwo it won't be liek changing out bars on  B<X bike but do I have to get new hand grips if I do this? And how do i not mess up the throttle part of the grip?

Thanks

Changing the bars on the bike won't lower value since they can easily be changed back.
Now cutting the frame is a differant story.
Sorry, I have not put superbike bars on but I do have them on my new K4 I just bought.
Your current thottle control will easily screw on the new bars but the cable may be too long? And getting the left grip off sometimes can be difficult, good time to put on new grips though.
Here's a pic of my bike with the superbars, not sure how much I like them yet?

I just put some superbike bars on my F3. There shouldn't be any problem with them getting in the way of anything. The only thing I ran into with mine is that my front master cylinder hits my fairing now, but it's not a problem. New grips are totally up to you. I've swapped my grips from 3 different types of bars. Soapy water is a good way to get the left grip off.

here's my bike with superbike bars
