« on: July 10, 2011, 07:53:51 PM »
Do I need the suppression plug wires when running the Dyna S ignition, or are the solid copper ones just fine?
thanx

The Dyna S doesn't change anything for the spark wires. It just replaces the points.

I think he might be asking whether or not the unsuppressed wires will have any negative effect on the
Dyna-S, due to the interference they might produce.  I was a little curious of this myself.

Run copper with resistor plug ends.

There is no computing going on in the dyna-s, just on/off switches, so no need for suppressing electromagnetic pulses.

In that case...you'll want to get some resistance in line with the coils, between the +12 volt supply and the coils. Otherwise, it won't be long before you overheat the Dyna S triggers, and your battery will run lower voltage than it does now. You can make your own from some 1 ohm, 10 watt resistors, or get one of my Resistor Packs (check my website, they are there).

Dyna has always recommended this resistance for use with those 3 ohm coils on these bikes, for several reasons. They just don't make 'em. Since the Dyna S adds about 1.25 amps extra load to the bike all by itself, and the 3 ohm coils add another 1 amp on top of that, you'll be heating up connectors all over the bike, too. the resistors will cool things off and make for a longer-duration spark, in the end. ;)

I have your resistor pack already! = )
Plus I have updated all the electronics and switched everything over to LED's as well...
