Sandcast going back together....YES!
« on: April 28, 2006, 08:07:14 PM »
Now that the cases are painted. I'm ready to put them back together, So here
are a couple of pics of the parts laid out and the painted halves. Besides a bunch
of heavy gears and stuff there's really not much in there right?  ;D

I pulled the cases apart for ease of painting so I didn't totally disassemble the
crankshaft and transmission.  Almost all the bolt on externals are apart though.
Interesting to note the cases had "Hondabond" on all mating surfaces. A little
"oozed" out when they were tightened...but not much.

Hopefully the engine will be back together over the weekend. ::)

Pics..

1. How can anything look this bad at 8,300 miles? :o
2. Pic of the 16 tooth drive gear and the vin label (removed for powder coating)
Notice no ID number at all.  ???
3. Most of the parts....now where does that doohicky go??
4. The case halves after painting.

Just a thought...why would you paint the cases...I thought they were done with no paint? At least mine are.

The cases come painted from the factory.  Either a PO stripped the paint from your engine or it's still in good enough condition that it doesn't look like it's painted.  Wish I could say the same about mine. :'(

Cases were not painted from the factory. Sandcasts were bare. Some of the polished aluminum, forks, covers etc... had a clear over them. Eastwood makes a great aluminum clear paint for restoration. Sandcast cases were not cleared. Eli
