Is my battery dead??
« on: July 15, 2011, 02:03:48 PM »
Hey all, Just went out to start my 350f for the first time in a few weeks and its dead as a doornail despite being on a trickle charger. I got a brand new Scorpion battery just a few months ago and have always kept it on the charger. I think the charger is doing its job but as soon as I turn the ignition switch the battery voltage drops from over 12 to below 1 and then slowly rises to almost 4 volts. If I turn the switch off, after a few minutes the battery voltage is at 12 again, until I turn the key... Any suggestions?

If you're not using a smart charger that monitors voltage and turns off when the battery is at full charge you probably boiled it dry.

But I did use a smart charger. I have since the battery was brand new only 3 months ago :(

Could you be more specific about the charger?  Brand & model?

That's what I use, too, but only when needed and not for long periods of time.  In my experience, even when it's in "float mode" where it's supposed to just maintain a full charge, it still slowly boils away the water through electrolysis.  Have you checked the water level in your battery yet?
