H.I.D's with the halogen conversion will blind people. They'll also put less stress on your stator!

Be a dear and get a projector unit to put in your housing, don't be a total dick and just slap an HID lamp in there without using an HID-specific projector.

I have the $37 one in my bike and I love it. I don't ever use the hi beam unless I'm outside of town after dark. I haven't had any problem with my charging system, but I changed it not long before I got the new headlamp. It's an easy swap if that's what you want to know. It's brighter and cheaper than stock too. I guess only time will tell if screws up my stator.

I apologize for my ignorance, I am pretty new to this. Is there any easy ways of going about the HID route, or would the Halogen(H4)s be the way to go? Also whats better for the charging system, less draw etc..  I would love to learn more.
Thanks

...i like being a dick sometimes don't we all? Anyway on a serious note whats your idea for a projector in the housing? Also, I'll have you know that i only do hid's in the 5000k range no blue or purple.  That makes me less of a dick. Anyway hid's run at way lower amps and watts for more output than a halogen. You know how when you put on a blinker you can see the headlight slightly flicker? Well hid's shouldn't do that.

there's nothing wrong with an HID in these conversion housings (non-projector) as long as the cutoff pattern is roughly controlled.  you can accomplish this using shims against the base of the housing on the outside against the bulb.  there's a thread on here about running HID's, and the cutoff patterns were actually impressive for using cheap parts like this!

i'm going to run a DDM 5000k 55w HID on my bike.  i'll spend the time to align it properly for sure!

What's the difference in housings? Ie projector/non projector? And will it make a difference if I just go with the halogen bulbs?

I'm happy with the halogen conversion I did on my bike. As long as the reflector/lens are good quality, like made by Bosch, that sounds like a good deal.

What's the difference in housings? Ie projector/non projector? And will it make a difference if I just go with the halogen bulbs?

A projector has a lens and cutoff shield that direct the higher output light to reduce glare.  A reflector housing ("non-projector") is like a sealed beam light, the concave rear of the lamp is reflective and that's all the direction the light has - roughly forward, lots of potential for glare, no lens to focus the light.  This is OK for halogen bulbs and sealed beam lamps since the output isn't as high as an HID.

When you have an import vehicle behind you and you hear the fart-can exhaust and can't see through the blazing glare of his bright blue headlights, it's most likely because he is running HIDs in his stock-type reflector housing lamps.

An H4 lamp is not designed for a HID lamp. The H4 bulb has an integral shield to limit glare on low beam. There is no "legal" HID conversion made for H4 lamps and never will be: the light pattern can not be correct without a very special bulb and no company is going to invest in that bulb for very few sales. All kits use a "stock" HID bulb made for some car use, most kits modify them so the original lamp won't fit in the kit adapter. It's very possible that getting a replacement bulb that fits will be near impossible, the manufacturers of the cheap kits come and go. No "brand name" company makes an H4 HID conversion... I've seen name brand kits but these were fakes - same crap in a box with a name brand printed on it.
If you want an HID lamp, find an HID lamp assembly from some car and adapt it. If you want bright driving lamps there are HID ones available, they cost $$$ but turn night into day ahead.
On a 750 there is plenty of electricity available to run a 55/65W  H4 headlight. Smaller bikes, not so good. Don't try to use the off-road high wattage bulbs. Smaller bikes can use low-wattage (35/35 or 35/50) H4 bulbs in a conversion lamp: the light on the road will still be way better than with the feeb-o-dim stock unit.

Bingo.
Adapt a current car lamp with the projector, preferably a passenger side projector/bulb.

Why would you like being a dick?  Anyway, the more you compromise the vision of oncoming drivers, the less likely they'll be able to judge exactly where you are, which seems more dangerous to you.  Additionally, putting a true HID system (some fancy-colored H4 bulbs are marketed as "HID") in an H4 reflector doesn't take full advantage of the HID's superior light output.

A motorcycle-specific or passenger-side reflector unit with with an H4 bulb or a true HID system with proper projector unit are the only ways to upgrade.  With a true HID system, you'll have to figure out a place to put the ballast.

Anyway, back to the original poster. Wilson, the link that you posted has headlamps that are safe to use in your bike without being a dick. As I said before I have one in my bike. On high beam it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. It is probably the best/easiest thing you can do for the least amount of money. And it's a Halogen not HID. Still 10x better than the stock bulb.

Also lots easier to carry a spare bulb :-)...not sure how long they will live carried on the bike somewhere though ? When I put mine in both the high and low burnt out on me, right at dusk, had to make a mad dash home. Not sure why, Action fours sent me a new bulb and it has been fine since.

Well that's the other thing. HID's are more vibration resistant. How do I know? Because in my
Buell the bulbs blew out in about 3k miles. Still on the original HID replacement bulb in 12k miles. You just need a good refractor in the lens. I have HID's in all of my vehicles and they are just right. Not too bright but way better than factory. No people ever flash me, and no cops pull me over. Don't get me wrong someone with a 55w (versus my 35w) with a nice neon purple color is annoying but it never impairs my ability to see where they are on the street. When cops pull you over they blast a spot light in your eyes and mirrors and then they let you drive on off seconds later. Isn't that just as dangerous then?

the beam is nice and flat, and the bi-xenon function simply moves the bulb within the housing so that the beam points down more on the low beam setting.

Okay, so I have read this thread a couple times.........

I want plug and play.  So, what is/are the right item(s) to get.  Links please.  ;D ;D

I have seen K5's last post.

What I do get out of this this thread is what's nice and not so nice.  What I did and what I did and what I did.  I guess I must still be on vacation from last week and my mind is still out in the hill country.

I do not ride at night much anymore so I am nowhere near in any hurry.  Besides, I have a foam and seat cover to put on the bike still.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
