CB750K6 One Year Later

Painted to Match my 97 Miata and striped like the early models.  It's a start, but still a long way to go.

Hi John,

Thanks for the kind words.  Pictures always look better than the real thing.  Things to do include Alloy rims and stainless steel spokes, powder coat frame, replace rust-prone parts with stainless steel or aluminum, repaint engine cases, lots more aluminum polishing, new seat cover, 836cc pistons, new cam, 300 series exhaust, and on and on and on.  I saw one of the guy's quotes that went something like "Is it ever really done?"  I think he must have been talking about my bike.

I recently got some metal working tools (lathe, drill press, milling vise, torches), and I've begun making parts.  As my skills develop, I keep seeing more and more rust-prone parts that I can replace with stainless steel or aluminum.  So, I don't think it will ever end.  And that's what I like about buying old stuff.  With something new, the day you buy it is the best it will ever be.  But with old stuff you can keep making it better and better.  That's the fun, and with any luck it will never be done.  I've thrown in a "bonus picture" of the old and new rear brake linkages.  Everything on the new one is stainless steel except for the part that connects to the brake pedal.  It's made up of three pieces of aluminum, glued and screwed together (with stainless steel screws, of course!).

Who knows where it will end?

Hey John,

I just noticed that you're in Oshkosh.  I have a cousin, Jim Grover, who lives there.  He used to fly for the Wisconsin Highway Patrol, a "Bear in the Air."  We took several great rides together. including the Northern Peninsula of Michigan and Canada, Gettyburg PA, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had Goldwings at the time.

I also noticed you're picture of a K0.  Beautiful I had one the same color from the 70's into the 90s.  Gave it away.  I've done a lot of stupid things, but that ranks right up near the top...

Hey Red...yes, a life long resident of Oshkosh. I wonder if Jim is gearing up for the annual EAA Fly-In. So you gave a KO away...bet you wish that could be a do-over. Pretty cool to be making your own parts. Sounds like you have a ways to go to make it "your" bike. Good luck with it and update us with more pics.

Thank you Tango.

Damn, you SOHC 4 Fourm guys are the nicest bunch of people I've never met.  Maybe that will change and I'll get to meet a few of you at the Barber Motorsports Vintage Festival.  I'll be hanging around the VJMC display (assuming my wife lets me go).

Bunch of CT guys heading to MO this year, I couldn't make it this year but I hear it is a must to go to. This is the second year I couldn't make it. Maybe next year! Have fun and buy lots of stuff!
