73 cl350 Scrambler
« on: July 08, 2011, 04:26:05 PM »
My bike starts and runs fine but when I get it going around 40-45mph it starts to feel like it's struggling for gas? Has a chugging feel almost like it's running on 1 cylinder.

Restricted fuel flow? Plugged petcock or inline filter? Main jets gunked up?  Carbs need to be cleaned?  Could be a few things.  What have you done to the bike lately?  We need more info.

It runs good at the slower speeds but not the higher speeds. It sounds like the float bowls may be draining faster than it can be filled. Hence, incorrect float level. Might want to give www.hondatwins.net a look for this specific bike issue.

Behind the points plate.  It works with small weights on springs that rotate.  As the rpm increase the weights open up and the mechanism advances the timing.  Sometimes they get stick or the springs break or get weak.  You should get a manual for your bike before you tear into that. Exhaust all the easier possible solutions first.  Work from the easiest and cheapest to the harder and more expensive.

Checked the spark advance no problem there, time to check float bowl height.
