Godzilla Takes on Europe
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:33:05 PM »
OK guys, coming soon to a road near you - G O D Z I L L A.

Our 2011 SOHC4 Relay Rally Across America, Canada and Beyond will be in the BEYOND stages soon! Little did we know just how amazingly successful this would be. It's actually gotten easy.  ;D We are beginning to work with the riders in New Zealand and Australia. Once the North America Relay has completed around September Godzilla will travel to New Zealand for their springtime riding pleasure then onto Australia. My initial plan is to get Godzilla to you guys in your spring 2012 fresh from Australia.

It's still early for you but we'll need to begin our organizational structure for Europe soon. Now I can admit I really didn't have a clue how this would actually work but I knew I like to ride and I've done many miles so I figured I could pull the troops together to see what happened. S U C C E S S !! And it's been one fun and amazing experiment watching all the guys come together and meet one another along the Relay.

I'll probably bow out of the 2011 Relay once GZ hits Europe for your 2012 leg except as an advisor role so I'll need to find the ultimate road warrior/organizer to take over for Europe. I'm looking for references, advice, volunteers, etc. North America isn't bad for me but I don't have a clue about Europe. I have been wanting to do a personal Freedom Tour once my divorce is final. Maybe I can come ride the Alps with you guys and Godzilla!  ;) Hint, hint!

Please communicate via PM's as I will get better notification.

Thanks and looking forward to carrying on the legacy that is G O D Z I L L A!

Jerry Griffin
2011 SOHC4 Relay Rally Across America, Canada and Beyond Coordinator

Hi Jerry,

are there any news on the 2012 relay in Europe?

I'm just curious if Godzilla will show up on the TT :)

Cheers

Fritz,

It's beginning to get closer now, huh?! Surprisingly, or maybe not?, no one has stepped forward to volunteer to become the European Coordinator. I figured we'd have a volunteer from Great Britain since the majority of our European riders seem to hail from the Isles. It does not matter where a coordinator is from however. I'd like to think that we'd have a Euro Coordinator with regional coordinators for the different areas due to the potential expansiveness of the territory and members. I haven't been actively recruiting for the position as I've kinda side stepped Godzilla since the ending of the north American journey due to life/family issues. I'm hoping that you Euros can put something together to keep continuity. Any suggestions? Spring time is right around the corner!

I don't have the time to be a coordinator but am happy to do a leg around W London.
Handover at the Ace Cafe?

Steve,

That's a start  ;D Guess it all depends on how many riders there are and their locations. It could be long and drawn out or short and sweet. I have NO clue as to logistics in Europe so it's MUCH better if you guys attempt it yourselves and let the chips fall where they may. Hopefully sohc.co.UK will drum up some interest. It may not be necessary to have an official coordinator provided all the guys can simply connect the dots between locations!

It should be interesting, just from the top of my head there are members in:

Slovenia,
Serbia,
Poland,
Denmark
Holland
Czech Republic

I would follow it closer than down under, nothing personal, just never been anywhere but Europe and North America

That's a lot of territory! Maybe our European members could ship Godzilla to one another then take him for some scenic rides and post photos of your beautiful countries so that all our members can enjoy what you enjoy on a daily basis.

Well,

is riding on a SOHC4 a must? If so, there may be a chance. I only have a CB550 with sidecar available If other bikes are acceptable: we sure give GZ a ride to the Danish border at Flensburg.

From mid-northern Germany,

Glad to see you guys interested. There is no way I can coordinate Europe since I have NO clue about Europe so for the most part I will stay out of it. I will gladly act as an advisor for you.  It looks like it will be a while before Godzilla is finished down under then he can head your way if you can make it happen. It's not really necessary to have a coordinator but it might be helpful. If the members and riders can work/coordinate amongst themselves then I'm sure you could be successful. In any event you need to be creative in your ideas and planning. One of the requirements HAD been (chain broken in NZ) that Godzilla can only ride on a SOHC4. I am really surprised that we pulled the "SOHC4 only" requirement off in north America but it happened. Actually I was more concerned about my own journeys as my bike is in pieces in the garage undergoing a rebuild/restore. Member CB650 was fantastic enough to loan me one of his 650's. My untold backup plan was UPS  ;).

If you guys do want to get started planning, in my opinion what you should do is to begin recruiting as many members and other riders as possible. Try to put a time limitation in place then work within that. You will need to stay in touch with Team Australia so that you can plan your beginning. That will also give them a little kick in the butt to get their riding done in order for you to begin and have time to complete by the end of the/your 2012 riding season. Once your main riders are in place then begin to connect the dots ie locate the riders and make a preliminary ride plan. Once you have done that then other riders that come on board can join in. The routing can be changed somewhat to fit those needs but remember that there will be a completion date which will coincide with the end of the 2012 ride season. If some riders can't link with one another then perhaps ship the lizard and his stuff to the next guy. Like any major event there will be issues with trying to make everyone happy. VERY unlikely that can or will happen so you just have to do the best you can and do what makes the most sense. The unhappy riders will hopefully understand. We did not have as many issues as I anticipated but they were there.

Only thing I ask is that Godzilla and his stuff be returned to me when done. Think we can pull this off? You know, I've always hoped to ride Europe and I have a bunch of flier miles built up. Hummmm.......... You never know! Just a dream right now. I'm heading to Palau 1/29 through Hawaii for 2 weeks. That's an expensive proposition so I don't know if I could pull off 2 big trips this year. I had toyed with the idea of taking escorting Godzilla to NZ and/or OZ but my divorce got in the way. Stay in touch.

The big problem with Europe Jerry, unlike the States, it is made up of Countries with borders.
I think the best Idea is for someone to state where and when they are able to take the lizzard for a ride.
If it can be got to Finland in June, I can give it another short blast down the Alastaro drag strip like I did at Rockingham NC in March. I'm the short distance rider. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If it can be got back to me for the end of October, I can bring him back to the States and get someone to take him back to the starting point. ;)
