CB350 Oil Light
« on: July 31, 2011, 03:01:00 PM »
I just got a 1973 CB350 barn find that only had 9000 miles on it. I did all the routine maintenance: Fresh oil, plugs, clean carbs, clean tank and new fuel lines, valve adjustment. It started up rather easy and idles nice. I took it down to the gas station to fill up the tank and noticed the oil light came on after a few miles. Im guessing this means I dont have oil pressure? Any suggestions on what I should check. Thanks

Since you posted under "other", I'm assuming this is a twin?

Edit: this must be a four....try disconnecting the lead to the pressure switch and start the engine. If the light goes out, either you have really low or no oil pressure, or the switch is bad. If it stays on, the wire to the switch may be shorted to ground somewhere.

Hmmm...I only race 350 twins, so I don't use any of the stock instruments, but I don't think these engines use any kind of oil pressure or low oil level switch(the 350/4 does). Are you sure the red light is for oil? The wiring diagram doesn't show a light for oil either....

Geesh, I should have check the service manual. The red light in the middle of the headlight bucket is the high beam indicator. I must have bumped the light switch on my ride. Im so used to seeing the oil light being red and the high beam blue or yellow. Cool, I feel good now. haha

Dude, you got any tricks for that stupid fuel hose on the bottom of the tank? Im sorta thinking of some kind of quick release valve or something?

Yep, I bought one of these dual shut off quick disconnects:

Pricey, but they work nice.

Actually with the amount of fuel I lose each time taking the tank off, not pricy at all. Thanks, man.
