CB750K4 Carb question
« on: July 29, 2011, 09:04:18 AM »
What can I do to/ change on the carbs, without taking them off of the bike - thus having to re-sync them?

It's not running perfect, andI'm thinking about experimenting with different jets (slow and main)

You don't have to synchronize the carbs just because you pull them off the bike, only if you de-rack them or mess with the slides/needles.

Why do you think you need different jetting?  Are there changes from stock on the intake or exhaust?

exhaust is open. no muffler.
It doesn't accelerate very well past 60mph. Sounds like its working way too hard. If I give it full throttle at 60, it just creeps along.
Doesn't start up easily. I have to give it throttle and rev it several times. Choke doesn't seem to do much on starup either...and it's like 100 degrees here. I don't think I should need to use the choke on startup.

I have pod filters, and have 115 jets in it. Air screw is all the way in. If I turn the airscrew out past 3/4 of a turn, I get lots of hesitation when I give it full throttle. With the air screws all the way in, or 1/4 turn out, the hesitation on acceleration is gone, but it's really wimpy above 60mph.

Should I take the carbs off and change the slow and main jet to something different?

Let me clarify - I need more adjustment with the air screw. I have it turned in all the way.
Changing which jet will give me more adjustment with the air screw...the main ...or the other one? or is there a third? (can't remember)

What you mean is you have header pipes with no baffle at the end, correct?

Did the bike run properly before you mangled enhanced your bike with podz?

Taking the carbs on and off with the breadbox is no big deal on these bikes, even with the breadbox.  Pull the rack, clean them, go one up on the main jet, put the breadbox back on, sync them and go on enjoying the ride with your bike.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Before you go nuts with rejetting it sounds like you need to clean the jets and carbs first.
A thorough cleaning with carb cleaner and compressed air through all orifices is in order before you go swapping out jets.
A full tune up is in order before you touch anything else also along with checking your ignition, coils, spark plug wires and caps and spark plugs.

Pods and open pipes. Did you buy it this way or add these mods later? I asked to see if it ran right before the changes were made.
