I'm picking up a '78 CB750 tomorrow. Po says it needs a seat,
battery and exhaust. Will take some pictures of it when I get it home. So you guys can tell me what you think. I beat out 8 other bidders, hope no one from this forum, sorry.

Thanks, I will keep it in mind. I haven't seen the bike yet, only in pictures on e-bay. The header pipes are rusty. I will know more when I pick it up tomorrow.

Great deal! Buy another good tank, trying to rested those old nasty tanks is not worth the time or money.

One just sold on Ebay for $310.  Yikes.  Is the '75/'76 F1 tank unique?

cevan i seen that it was at the 70 80 dollar range for ever than bam 310 a couple guys most have really wanted it . it even had 2 dents in it . don't quote me on this but 75 and 76 were the first 2 years and they were the same after that they started changing stuff . I am not sure if the tanks were always the same

A good unrusted tank is fairly rare to find. I've paid $300 for 1 NOS (new old stock) tank and $700 for another. Just depends on what you can find and the deal you get. I really think $700 for a perfect NOS tank is NOT out of line if you're doing a restore. Try taking an old tank, doing perfect body work then 3 step paint with graphics and see how much you put into it especially if you farm out the work. If you just need a tank then hope you can find a better deal than $300. I think it's a matter of jumping on a decent tank when you can find one. Don't be in a hurry.

75 and 76 are identical to 77 and 78 in appearance but they have different petcocks and threads. Either one would work/interchange with the proper petcock. 75/76 petcocks are still available from Honda but I do not believe the 77/78 petcocks are available anymore (not 100% sure)
