I've found a '76 CB750F1 locally.  I'm going to look at it in the next few days.  The guy reports it ran a couple of years ago but it's just sat since then.  He thinks it has charging issues (shocking, I know).

From the photos, it has what appears to be ComStars and 4 into 1 exhaust.  Except for the tank (it has a '78 tank on it), all the parts appear to be there.

I've been looking for a new resto project (cafe maybe).  Assuming it needs a full restoration, what's a fair price to pay?

Get the frame VIN and engine serial numbers so you can check what year it is.

Comstars came on the 77/78 F models not on the 76.

Looks like you have a bastard there. The 77-78F's came with Comstars and they had dual disc brakes. Yours obviously has a single disk so not sure about that. Also the gas tank on the bike pictured here is from a 77 or 78 K model. The F tanks are slimmer.

That is a 75/6 F with a few "other" parts as others have posted.  For a resto I might find another but may be a good candidate for a cafe.  Maybe $300.

I looked at the bike this  morning and we negotiated a price:  $50.   :D

It comes with the original tank which needs serious restoration and a title.

I'd like to get it running to sort out any engine/trans issues before I tear it down.  It hasn't run in a couple of years so I figure put some oil in the cylinders and thru the valve adjustment covers and turn  it over before firing it up.  Anything else I should do?

For $50 I would say you got a good score there.  I have seen folks pay more for a lot worse. ;D

Jump up and down!
$50 s a fair price. What state are you in for the title? Maybe a friend of yours from a non title state could send you a bill of sale....  :-X

I misread. Thought it needed a tank resto and a title resto.

You done good!  Throw a tarp underneath. Soak 'er down in PB Blaster for a couple three days. Strip everything off that you don't want and toss it in a pile. Offer those parts, if they're usable, in this site's For Sale section. Trash or recycle the rest, then Rock 'n Roll to your new cafe bike!   :)  RR

Good score and PERFECT for a cafe' conversion. At least you won't be dismantling a nearly complete, stock bike. Don't get me wrong...love the cafe' bikes, but that bike is PERFECT to use as a starting point for one!

Quick update:  I wanted to get this thing running and see how it ran and shifted.   I removed the airbox and found a pretty crappy filter inside.  I had a Fram CA3681 lying around and with a little bending, got it to fit inside.  The float bowls had nice clean gas inside so that was a good sign.  I check the coils and they were good.  The solenoid needed to be pulled apart and cleaned.  After that, the starter worked.

I had to remove the front caliper piston and seal and clean them up.  Reinstalled and a quick bleed.  Seems to work ok.  Good enought for my 1/4 mile long driveway.

Onto the points.  The PO had new spares so I replaced them.  I checked the advancer while I was in there and that worked smoothly.  Did a static timing.  I popped in fresh plugs and a new battery.  Both tanks that came with the bike were nasty so I pulled the tank off my CB360 and stuck it up on top.  Hit the starter and it fired right up.  I love Hondas!

Surprisingly it didn't smoke.  It actually idled nicely.  I've taken it up and down the driveway a couple of times and shifted thru the gears.  So far so good.  I'll probably get it warmed up again and do a compression test.  Then the tear down begins.
