CB750 rear hub vs CB550 rear hub
« on: July 19, 2011, 08:36:15 AM »
Hi y'all,

My latest project came with a back wheel. The wheel is in very nice shape and I would really like to use it. The problem? The wheel came without a brake hub. I have a 750 brake hub, which I plugged in. Unfortunately, the brake hub is just slightly too big. Big enough that the outer edges contact the hub before the inner part that holds the axle makes contact. This makes the wheel about 1/4 inch too wide to mount. More importantly, though, if I did get it in the wheel would not turn.

The wheel itself looks identical to a stock CB750 wheel I have (real bad condition) except for this brake hub issue. I am wondering if I got a wheel from another size CB, like maybe a 500 or 550. (The sprocket on it was also much smaller than a stock 750 sprocket, but set up for 530 chain) Does anyone have brake hubs from both a 750 and a smaller bike they can compare? I would rather find the right brake hub and use this very nice wheel than just finding another wheel.

TIA.
