"XS500 frame w/ title. 8hp. eng. w/automatic transmission. Eng. not bolted down. needs brakes, speedometer, seat cover, are the main things it needs."
The XS500 (aka TX500) where real turds from a reliability standpoint, so, I guess this is an upgrade? 🤣
I had a 1974' TX500 and did the required cylinder head(2-piece)torque-down.. I also did a top-end freshen-up with new rings, etc. although the balance chain was at the end of it's adjustment. I liked that bike and put over 8000 miles on it before I sold it:all good.
I'm curious if this above 'project' was built for 'just around the yard' ventures..
I never thought I'd come out in defence of the TX500 Bill, but I had one just like that one (before the engine transplant) and loved it! It dribbled a little oil, but was a well used example. I bought it from "Stanco" in Elizabeth Street in Melbourne in late 1977 or early 1978 (can't remember) but when I bought it, for $450, I had the choice of it, or a Ducati Silver Shotgun 450, either for $450. The salesman struggled to get the Duke going, whereas the Yam fired up on the button, and regardless of what "Classic" Ducatis are selling for, I still think I chose the best bike.....
