“Carlini Hardhead” From “Carlini Cycle Creations” in Detroit, circa1972. Tony Carlini was famous for building the earliest Honda Four choppers. It is an Amen (American Engineering Co.) frame. He raked the headstock and extra 15* and built the chrome front ends from scratch. His shop also sold the coffin tanks (built by a neighbour in Detroit). Somewhere in the project files I have a thread about the history, purchase and light restoration. It now rests in Indianapolis, with a gentleman who collects choppers! I decided to sell it when I couldn’t find road insurance for it here.....

Terry is correct. My Sandcast project motorcycle came with the chopper as an “extra” bonus.... I kind of miss the beast, but it did take up a LOT of space in my shop!

   I'm looking at that aerodynamic lock no one mentioned and wondering about which neighborhood we're going into to look at this thing (concealed carry legal state). And does the racing lock and chain come with it?

I'd love to build a chopper John, I have a spare CB750 or Z1 engine to put in one, I might have to buy a CycleX frame and build one as a retirement project.

Terry...... I’m sure you would enjoy it, mine was a delightful change! The only downside was ownership (mine was easy, but others have real issues with “home built”) and finding willing insurance companies (never did). Happy New Year! J.

Very true! I’m trading emails with a fellow in New Brunswick who built a new Black Douglas Sterling and has found it to be impossible to register/insure. I had one a few years ago, and managed to register as a “Douglas”. Not sure that would work today!

Very true! I’m trading emails with a fellow in New Brunswick who built a new Black Douglas Sterling and has found it to be impossible to register/insure. I had one a few years ago, and managed to register as a “Douglas”. Not sure that would work today!

Google Black Douglas Sterling. Replica bike, built in Italy, of a 1918 Douglas. I brought it into Canada in small boxes as “parts” and built it here. Actually, built three of them. Two were for the 4th Canadian Mounted Regiment (these had 250 cc motors). We built two replica sidecars for those. Super fun for a few years. 125cc Honda clone engine, Electric start, 5 speed gearbox. Cruised at +50 mph and used no gas!

I bought Spotty's Dad's 1948 BSA C11 a couple of years ago, and have been collecting parts for it whenever I see them. I scored a couple of incomplete C11's recently as I needed a complete front end, and one of them was a very early "hardtail" version, so I bought an Indian repro girder front end, as the 1939 C11's had them and I've never owned/ridden a bike with a girder front end, apart from a mate's chopped Harley 30+ years ago. It won't be that fast, but should be a fun little commuter.

i think the most innovative part of the design suite inherent in that particular bike is the way he's removed any possible obstructions between whatever the rear wheel throws up and whatever the carbs are ingesting, brilliance
