Henry Abe 900cc kit
« on: April 28, 2006, 10:10:12 PM »
I recently acciqured a brand new 900cc kit. my question is what about carbs and cam setup any recomendations on this from anyone I would like to go with CR's but they don't give those out as samples so are there any carbs from that era that will fit the manifolds on a CB750 without to much hassle (besides rejetting ect) I would like to go up to 33mm's if possible. Also I would prefer not to use those crap pumper carbs from the CB750 SuperSport

Also I have several different head's I can use K  F1  F2  full port ect. I realize the compromises involved with this but I got three van loads of CB parts and A complete(ly) ugly 750 chopper for $400 so I definitley have all the factory parts I need a few times over.

I pretty much want to build a CB 750/900 that will make small children cry from fear and old women pray for my soul. I expect to have two throttle settings Idle followed by Vulgar display of power.

Trade or sell or barter all the spare parts you have to the forum members - especially those unfortunates (me included) that have  super sports, and they will gladly give you much free advice.. :)

I don't know of any magic set of carbs from some other machine that can be had cheaply and work wonders on the SOHCs. . . .For the carbs you probably will  spend a good chunk of $ for . . . . . a set of CR's . .. a dual carb setup from Cycleexhange . . . . .or find set of period Mikuni smoothbores and rubber manifolds to mount them up.  If you don't have this kind of money then you should simply fix up and tune either an earlier set of CB750 carbs or learn the ins and outs of the later pumper carbs which can work nicely. . . .   Decide whether you want a high HP, high  RPM screamer or a torque monster.  High RPM will probably cost a good bit more. For camshafts look to Webcam or Megacycle cams.  If you want to make a lasting impression with your bike then the exhaust is probably your best bet.  Un baffled 4-4s sound the part or look to Cycleexchange for some nasty options.

There's a Russ Collins CB750 (???cc)  around Welland (Canada) that has what looks like a Z1 set of Mikuni carbs grafted onto it. I don't recall detaols of the manifolds but it wasn't real pretty. Seemed to work though!!!

Mike Rieck is definitely the guy to talk to. Take him up on the offer. He's the head master. Can you describe the Henry Abe kit you have? I'm trying to find out about a 900 kit has has cylinder liners that are tapered at the bottom that will allow insertion into the cases without machining the cases. Would this be the beast? If you decide against using the kit shoot me a price. Good luck on finding carbs. Don't think there are any 33's available that are set up for a 750. Keihin CR31s are available (new) and come preset for you with approximate jetting to fit your engine. $700 +. I wouldn't be tempted to get a set for another brand either. Would be too much trouble and possible wasted $$$. Wouldn't it be better to make young women cry and old women squeal? Or is it the other way around.

The ABE kits had turned down sleeves.  They were flat top pistons. (actually 890cc) One piece oil rings, No spare rings were available.

Are these kits still floating around new ?

You asked this question a little while back Jay. I'd say someone has them.1 piece oil rings are a little too "old school" for me. If I remember correctly the instructions called for huge skirt clearences even with cast pistons. How many sets of 915 pistons would Wiseco want to do a run? That 67.5 is a blank they still use for several Honda's. And they use the XA rings.

Yeah bricky, there is nothing wrong with the pump carbs. You can tap in new low speed jets if you need to but most people dont. the mains are just as replaceable as the earlier carbs. The neddle can be moved by staking washers under the E-clips. There are a lot of incorrect ideas of the later 77 - 78 cb750s.

I thought I had asked about the ABE 605 / 500 kits. Wiseco will make 50 pistons.

If money weren't an object I'd take 4 or perhaps 8 of those 50. Who's going to take the 2 leftovers? Lets get everyone to ante up and see what they'll make those 50 (48) for. I have a feeling there will be enough interest.

Yep...my mistake. Anybody interested in a 915 kit. Head gaskets are available. I assume sleeves are available through Advanced or LA Sleeve.
