R&R pistons / cylinders with engine in bike
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:12:45 AM »
Bike: 1973 CB500

Looks like my #4 may be toast. I have the top end from my old engine which was fine (it was the bottom end that leaked like crazy). Since I just put the new (to me, obviously I got ripped off here) motor in with the non-leaking bottom end I wanted to R&R the cylinders and pistons with ones from my other engine- basically get the best parts from both motors. I don't want to bore or hone anything, just swap the offending parts, change gaskets and be done with it.

The FSM shows that R&Ring the pistons is possible with the engine in the bike.

Any gotchas I should watch out for? Tips? Tricks?

I only know one thing.... You may as well measure and hone. Its not worth having to do it again.
