For those wanting to 'Europeanise' their '79 650
« on: October 21, 2006, 01:30:00 pm »
There has been talk previously (from me and others) about retrofitting Eurpoean style footpegs and rearsets to the North American 650.

Looking to try and do this on a budget I've just got a set of Honda CB650 SC 1982 aluminium peg mounts and they will bolt right on. It looks like the existing welded up exhaust and passenger peg plates will have to be removed to faciliate installation. The plates have the same peg mounting positions as now, so even if I did nothing but mount them as they are it would prettify that part of the bike. To make them into a rearset appplication will involve some jiggery pokery and faffing around.

Of course you could just buy the European kit from the get-go and have at it....but that would be far too easy, wouldn't it!!

Are the Euro rearsets actually farther back than the US model?  This sounds interesting.

The '82 CB650SC pegs aren't actually rearsets at all, they just look like it.

I know this because I have an SC parts bike in the basement with the aluminum peg bracket, but I could easily interchange the brake lever and shifter with my '82 cb650STD (the levers are the same length between models).

Same length levers = no rear-movement on the pegs.

They've got to be further back than my '79 pegs are... Here's a pic of the Euro 650's rearsets...

On my '79 CB650 the shifter lever is directly on the shaft and the foot peg is about where the Euro's shifter lever is.

The Euro models do have rearsets.  The SC models do not.

I've just got a set of Honda CB650 SC 1982 aluminium peg mounts and they will bolt right on

Until this thread was started, I thought the 400F and CB77 were the main ones with gearshifts that had linkage to them. So, I've learned something here. Are there others besides the European 650s? ???
