'72 CB450 Front Brake Light Switch Not Working??
« on: July 19, 2011, 05:26:22 PM »
I'm trying to figure out why my front brake light switch just cut out.  Been fixing/bleeding the front brakes lately, and now I noticed that the switch isn't working.  I don't see any electricals going to the lever, so I'm a bit confused on how this gets triggered.  Anybody know what I might be up against?

Thanks.

The "switch" is actually attached to the lower triple clamp - the 450 has a two piece brake line, one end of each piece goes to this switch.
Two wires go to the switch.

Thanks.  Eventually found this, but how does this switch actually work?  I'm guessing it is on pressure with some sort of plunger?  Is there a dedicated fuse for the rear brake light?

Pressure activated, put your ohmmeter across the two posts then pull brake lever and see if you get continuity...Larry

Thanks.  Gonna swap it out with another one from my other bikes that works and test.

Be careful when you take it out. Brake fluid everywhere.  If you don't plug it quick it can drain your entire top line.

No need to swap it out, check first with an ohmmeter to determine if it is bad....Larry

Swapped it out, and it works now.  I'll test the "bad" one to see if it is actually bad.

Thanks.
