I took a ride with my daughter today to Baker College (She is a student there).  The construction in the front along Outer Drive is complete.  All the barrels and other equipment are gone.  The road that runs alongside the college close to I-94 that leads to the rear parking lot is open.  There is a view of the tire (You can read the Uniroyal  Tire from the road).  Due to tall trees you cannot see the entire tire, but most of it.  FYI, the college is open on Saturdays and they do have security patroling.  Don't know if it would be a problem.  Stopping on I-94 to meet up would be done at everyone's risk.  Hope the info helps.

Thanks for the report 72Yellow!  Yea, stopping on the highway isn't an option. I'm hoping to get a good 'nuf view of the tire in the background of the official handoff photo to make it unmistakable where we are.

Are you thinking we can't get to the tire without crossing John Law?

I don't know how strict they are. My daughter told me there are people who ride motorcycles to the school so you might get the pic.   The tire is actually south of the college parking lot.  As you get closer to the tire the trees obscure more of it.  I saw a place where you can walk onto the grass closer to the fence and probably get a photo op. When you turn the road closest to I-94 heading to the rear parking lot, as you go up the hill you will see the tire. Towards the back of the lot they are beginning construction of dormatories (just the foundations in now).

72Yellow,

I understand.  Thanks for the intel on the tire.  I've been talking with KevinD about it too.  We really can't get a good photo with bikes, riders, banner, GZ and the tire.

Let's move the handoff to the Michigan Central Station.

I'll make the adjustments to the timeline and map on post #1.

I'm totally with that, I love the gritty scenery around that area of Detroit...very few places in the world like it imo...

Hey I'm in. I can meet up on this side of the bridge.

What is that red line on the map that goes through Plymouth?
Because somewhat parallel  to it (from Dearborn to Northville) is Edward Hines Drive (Hines Park).
A 12.5 mile curvy run with only a few lights, and much better scenery than straight roads and subdivisions.  :)
Just throwin' it out there.  :D

Oh yeah and Ford Rd. almost always sucks with Megatons of traffic and many long traffic lights.

Hey DJ,

The red line was me spitballing ideas on routes around Ann Arbor. I'm WAY OPEN to better routes.  No one is joining the ride between MCS & Hell, so we're good to take any route we wana.

Sean, Green:  are you two OK with the start time & location?  Our first meet up is 9:00 in Athens. I took the day off today to get my 550 ready. That should be done this afternoon. If y'all wana get together for a putt or wrenching later today, let me know.

For all riders: my cell is 269 Two Seven Four 3192. Text or leave a message.

I am good with the 8:00 start on Sprinkle.

I too am fitting final parts today, and maybe up for a putt in late afternoon.  I'll try your cell later.  GZ looms in the distance ;D

I don't want to mess with anyones plans, but if you're skipping the stop in Ann Arbor (Michgan Stadium ?) to avoid the Art Fair,
I would agree with DJ_AX on the Edward Hines Drive as an alternative to straight out Ford Road.

Hines Drive Version

As for me, I'm gonna try to be at the handoff, then just see how long my bike/butt holds out.

A couple changes to the timeline,

- no riders from Battle Creek will be joining in, so we'll just blow thru Athens instead of stopping.
- Arrive in Hell an hour earlier since we won't be muck'n around in Ann Arbor.

Since Ann Arbor is out, it would be great to swing thru downtown Detroit and the Stadiums, RenCen, and Ambassador Bridge and Windsor from the Detroit Riverfront.  Just a suggestion to think about for you Detroit riders this morning.  We can't be more than 10 or 15 minutes away at MCS

I'm hoping to arrive at Roosevelt Park about an hour or so early so I can flop down someplace and take some pain meds before we roll.  I'll try to park my bike somewhere conspicuous. I'm sure you guys can't miss my bike with all that white Vetter stuff on it.

Home safe and sound, had a great time, bike ran 75-80 mph all the way from Windsor to Lewiston, met some more friends there, what a great ride. Ran into Artsqu as I was crossing back into Windsor at Detroit, what's the odds of that, about 1,000,00 to one. Had a smoke, and shot the breeze, then he guided me to the bridge in his truck, how cool was that. Hope to see you guys next year for a ride. 1152 mile ride
