cb550 exhaust ?

I have just purchased my first bike. its a 78 cb550 with 4 to 20 exhaust.  I am just wondering is that original? I have seen the 4 to 4 and i like how it looks from the side. wondering about mounding places too and if its better airflow than any of the others; 4 to 2 and 4 to 1. thanks...

No, 4 into 20 exhaust is not original.

550k had 4:4 stock.  550f had 4:1.

well then i have that cb550 k 78 with 4 : 2 where would that comefrom someone putting it on aftermarket?

For sure. SOHC pipes are pretty notorious for rusting out early. I'd be willing to bet that a large majority of road going SOHCs have had at least one new set of pipes.

How exactly do you teach abstinence though?

i would if i could make enough and find a 4:4 cheap enough. theres a hole in the right muffler about 1.5 diameter

I have the original, I only have a corroded nr. 2, the others are in fine condition!
