Restore or replace ?
« on: July 21, 2011, 12:56:11 AM »
Question..

Should I restore my old exhaust pipes, or should I put on some new ones?

There are a few holes in em and the corners are not perfect, but still sort of nice.

same thing with my tank, it's nice and original, but the paint has a few minor scratches and has come off 2 places (2 mm)..

Would you paint or leave it as is?

I like it when it's original, but I'm in doubt..

For sure do the restore, these bikes are so classic looking and you will turn lots of heads with original equipment. Just my humble opinion but that was one of the main reasons I got the bike - we have become such a disposable society let's fix it and keep things running as they were intended.  No need to throw the baby out with the bath water :)

I'd be interested in seeing what you could do with the tank... A little 2000 and some compound. Maybe a re-clear over the paint and scratches and this way it wont rust? Whats the problem with a few deep scratches, it gives the bike character. I mean it is vintage. How about the pipes? Re-chrome? I got mine coated with Cerakote and they look awesome, but i did them black. They do have a few silvers though.
