CB650 Regulator / Rectifier Blown Stator Line
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:03:19 AM »
So I took the CB650 for a ride last night right as I got home she died as I pulled into the garage. After some poking around I found that the 30amp main fuse was blown. I grabbed another fuse and right as I installed it pop with the ignition off, okay so I have a short somewhere. After some trouble shooting I found that the issue was the Red/White line on my Regulator / Rectifier was grounding out. From the diagram of the RR I found that is bad, so I figured it was blown so I dug out the potting on the back side and found that one of the yellow stator lines was grounding out to the regulator side. I removed the wire hoked everything back up and the bike runs and charges the battery, am I missing something how is this still working?
Here is a pic of the inside of the regulator:

I do think my Stator Rotor is bad could that blow the return line from the stator coil?

If the 30A fuse blew, then the rectifier shorted-out ......... or actually 1 or 2 of the diodes in the rectifier shorted-out and blew; i.e. are now open circuit and are having no effect. So, your bike may show some charging, but at a much reduced rate that will not keep-up with the normal running demand of your bike ( ign. , headlight etc. )....... You will have to replace the Reg./Rect. unit, it's shot ( sorry   :) ).
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Thanks that is what I was thinking just never seen it blow only one of the lines like that. I found a new Accel Regulator/Rectifier but also found the other links in the forum about two separate pieces, one from Autozone the other from Digikey does anybody have feed back on either setup?
