header problems
« on: May 04, 2005, 08:39:07 AM »
hi all,

I recently bought an exaust header on ebay,  supposedly for my 500/4. it doesn't fit--the pipes are too large in diameter to go into the exaust ports, and the flanges at the ends of the pipes are too wide. is there any way I can safely adapt these to fit my bike?
I thought of welding a short section (1-2 inches) of  the right diameter pipe into the inlet of each header pipe, using the old flanges as
part of a mounting system.   I'm just trying to use what I have and avoid spending hundreds on this system.

Honestly, you will cause yourself more headaches attempting to "adapt" the pipes.  Most likely they are for a CB750.  You may wish to contact the eBay seller to see if you can work something out or post them on an auction yourself to recoup your investment.  Did you save the box they were shipped in?  That will come in handy.

I bought a set of headers last year for a CB500/550 They seemed too wide for the collars to slide over, but after a few attempts, I managed to get the collars on and bolted. Keep trying.
