Who else died at 27?

Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Kurt Cobain...

I however, think Winehouse paled in comparison to any of the previously mentioned artists.

I heard it on the radio and my thought was "that's no surprise".  Although I don't see it as anymore important or noteworthy than any of the other people that died today.

Gotta agree, I first heard Nirvana in 88, at the time I was fighting everyone and the music made sense,  I followed them ever since in one way or another.  On the 10th anniversary of Kurt's death we went to some of the places and homes of Cobain, it was part of the trip me and my friend arranged when we holidayed in the US.

From what I know of Cobains life he was pretty much screwed up from a young kid, there were suicides in his family previously, and Courtney Love f'ed him up pretty good.  Amy Winehouse wasn't a tortured soul, yeah her boyfriend was an arsehole but she just got into the drug and party scene.  It ended her life, so that is a tragedy but I wouldn''t compare her life in the same league as Kurt's.

Being an old creature and being into the Jazz scene there were multiple
drug and booze deaths in that area, in fact I read some where that if you didn't use you couldn't keep up with the creativity, I wonder how it was in Beethoven's time, how many fell by the wayside. Seems to come in waves, don't it.

From what I learned  from the art school tiolet stalls, Bryan Jones died for your sins,
RobertJohnson was fed some poison  achohol  or ethanol or  something like that by another jealous suitor or something like that.

Lemme know if what I heard was wrong, please.

Tragedy my ass, sad maybe- I am having a hard time feeling sympathetic about this.
She made the choice to do hard drugs and end her life prematurely- she had a choice- no tragedy there.

A tragedy is when some inncocent kid disappears off the streetsand is killed by some homicidal dirtball.
Or a busload of people goes off the side of a mountain in a huge fireball of death.

This is hardly tragic.

Tragedy my ass, sad maybe- I am having a hard time feeling sympathetic about this. She made the choice to do hard drugs and end her life prematurely- she had a choice- no tragedy there.

Actually this perfectly fits the definition of tragedy:
Quote
a dramatic composition, often in verse, dealing with a serious or somber theme, typically that of a great person destined through a flaw of character or conflict with some overpowering force, as fate or society, to downfall or destruction.

Anyhow, that being pointed out, I'd also like to point out that addiction is a disease. I've seen many people succumb to it. I wouldn't look them in they eye and tell them in the final stages of their disease that they chose it, nor would I tell their friends and family members who went through it with them that it didn't fit my made up description of what a tragedy is.

Ah yes, take it completely out of the hands of the rational, thinking person and call a decision a disease. Like they had no hand in the decision, the drugs MADE them do it. Bull#$%*.

I think people with cancer and other REAL deseases would beg to differ with your labeling drug addiction a disease. What you have is a drug problem and the fact you can't stop doing it for whatever reason- name a few.

She chose to do drugs, a conscious decision- I love it when people like to play the victim in these circumstances, "I had no choice, I am a victim of the drugs that somehow made their way into my body- mysteriously without my consent."  ::)

Doing drugs is not a disease, addiction is the disease. Just like any other personality disorder such as OCD, Anxiety or Depression. I'm not making this up, maybe you should do a little research before you call it "Bull#$%*"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Society_of_Addiction_Medicine

I think people with cancer and other REAL deseases would beg to differ with your labeling drug addiction a disease. What you have is a drug problem and the fact you can't stop doing it for whatever reason- name a few.

They can beg to differ all they want but it doesn't change medical facts.

She chose to do drugs, a conscious decision- I love it when people like to play the victim in these circumstances, "I had no choice, I am a victim of the drugs that somehow made their way into my body- mysteriously without my consent."  ::)

Most of my experience is with alcoholism and nicotine addiction (that then causes "REAL deseases" like cancer). You never had a beer or smoked a cigarette before? Some people can't control it. They don't know when to stop. They are addicts. Have you ever even seen a person die of alcoholism? I used to think like you until I did. It really is a clinical thing, I do not care if you don't believe it. Not my problem.
