Just wanted to throw out some documentation on a fuel filter mod I did recently as part of my attempts to stem the flow of rusty junk into my carbs. Here's what ya do: Buy a bunch of rare earth magnets (those insanely strong ones) from your local hardware store, and adhere them in a ring to the inlet chamber of a simple inline filter like so:
It's important to get the magnets as close to the wall of the filter as possible, so thick, double-sided tape may not cut it.
While I eventually ended up having to give my tank an acid bath anyway, this was an effective stand-in. For those who have just a little ferrous grit in their tank, I find this method catches a lot more junk than just the screen filter on it's own.
