Another saddle bag post
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:08:51 PM »
Let me start this of by saying I have searched many a previous post but have not found what I was hoping for...

I need to get a set of bags so I can use my bike for work. I won't be carrying much so I really don't want large bags. I would prefer a set I could run under the seat so I don't have to worry about them disappearing while out on appointments...

Does anyone have any suggestions? Pictures would also be very helpful... I don't need anything fancy and need to stay on the cheap side...

Any insight would be much appreciated....

Thanks Simpson... I think I ran across your pictures in my previuos searches. What kind of saddle bags were on the bike in the picture with the women on the back, seemed small and black. That is similar to what I am looking for...

Nce bike by the way... Mine is a 73 in the same orange, but probably not nearly as nice or runs nearly as smooth...

The Tourmaster bags in the photos have served me well for just the purpose you mentioned -- commuting to and from work.  They are just big enough (size medium) to carry lunch, tools and raingear, with sunglasses and a few odds and ends in the side pockets.  Seem very well made and they attach to a center part that sits under the saddle of my CB550K.  The reflective piping is actually black, but appears white in the photo due to the flash.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride. . .

Think you are referring to Andy750's Bates saddlebags.
There is a set on ebay, last I looked.

Don't be afraid to spend a few extra bucks on saddlebags, its a worthwhile investment.

Another thought might be just to mount a rack on the back with a top case.
My top case can be added and removed in under 5 minutes.

If you have the stock exhaust you're going to have a difficult time finding throw-over bags that will clear the pipes.  The top rack idea is a good one, or possibly a tank bag.

Thanks everyone, so far this has definitely been helpful. It's great to see the pictures, these bikes look so good as is I hate to cover them up with huge bags...

Gordon- unfortunately, and I guess fortunately in this case, I do not have stock exhaust. I have exhaust that needs to be replaced, but I just can't swing stock.... Thanks for the tip.

I forgot to mention, I don't have stock exhaust on my '75 CB550K.  Some PO fitted a 4-into-2 system that rides low and allows plenty of space for bags.

I dont know what your 750 lokos like under the seat.. but this is what I do.. and it seems like it would work with any old laptop-messenger-bag. The cheaper the better, no?

It hooks right into the helmet lock and some other hook up front... and the bottom rests on the passenger foot peg.

If it is empty, I can fit a girl on the back no problem.
