If they're like the 750 then yes there were more then one style of gauges.  Those look like the later style gauges used from about 76 or 77 on.  The earlier ones used a bright green face rather then the blue.

Those top guages are the same ones that are on my '77, which I know is original.

The 550 section from the SOHC4 site says that earlier 550's had a dark green background rather than the light green on our bikes.

He wants the car? Yikes, how much is he charging to do the forks?  You have another rider while this one is in the shop?

Sorry i said car. He is a pretty cool Guy $90 an hour is his rate. $90 to take off the tires, change and balance them. $90 for the fork seals. I had a small burr in my front right fork that i buffed down,. It may or may not been the cause of the leak. It has been leaking for about a month and the bike is over 30 years old, so  I figured get them done right and see how they work with new seals.

PS I spending and average of $150 a week on this bike, and it is becomming addictive. I research everything here and then shop

New Tomeselli type Bars
Bosch H4 headlight comversion
NKG D7EV Plugs
New Rubber Mounts for Tank
New Grips
New Exhaust
Uni Replacement Air Filter
New Tires, Tubes And rim Strips

Oh yeah new helmet and jacket
And I am  hoping to get a seat by labor day., Which will mean new turn siganls...liscence plate bracket...If you live in ct please dont tell my wife!

But i have put 1000 miles on in a month, so i am happy.

Harley Davidson might. People aren't spending the $15k, $20K, $25K on bikes as much. That's why prices on used bikes and parts like ours are getting so blasted crazy.

Are you having a shop replace your seals? It shouldn't take very long.  I replaced my fork seals in about 30 minutes with the help of a friend. It is a much simpler job on the 77-78 bikes than on the earlier ones.

Hey BankerDanny, I see you are near me... You state you have done a reseal of the forks on a Honda 550 78'? You ever think about helping fellow members to this and show them how to do complete this procedure? 30 minute time frame sounds like it would not be to complicated...

Cb550- Tires have been on, my mixture screws need replacement and are on order.... Sadly, she is in the shop waiting to complete the carb rebuild.... Great news is the shop said my bike is in excellent shape..

I would be happy to help you, but I won't be available for a while. This weekend is devoted to getting ready to ride with the Michigan guys in the Relay Rally, then I am gone from Tue 7/26 to around Tues 8/2. So the weekend of the 6th is the earliest I would be able to help.

I am exagerating a bit on the time. Replacing the two seals takes about 30 minutes, but then you have another 30-45 minutes to dissasemble and reassemble the front end.

I was going to ask the same question about the exhaust.
I had a job finding the right exhaust for my '76 Cb550F.
Nice looking bike. I'm across the pond ( Long Island Sound)

I have to find a way to take a video and put it on you tube... I tried with my cell phone, but on You Tube it had no sound.
I looked all over the internet for an exhaust and found this one at Lossa engineering, I believe there is a video here of someone with the same exhaust. It is made by gp motowerks.   This exhaust is loud sounds like a modern exhaust. If you have a 78 or 77 cb550 you will have to re-jet. Stock is 90, I have 105 but 100 should work as well just depends on the needle position. Also I am using the stock air box with a Uni Air filter.

In this thread is a video of the exhaust someone else made.
