CB175 Handlebar extras?
« on: May 01, 2006, 10:37:44 AM »
My CB175 came with some unidentified 'extras' on the kandlebars.  The first is a little 'handle' of sorts bolted in the handlebar covers.  It doesn't seem to be extra-sturdy like a hook point or whatever.  The second is a disc-type thing with four micro-holes in it.  It's also bolted to the bar covers.  Anyone know what these two 'extras' might be for?  While they came with my CB175, I have no idea if they belong there.

Update: The 'handle' thing shows up on the exploded view as a 'cable holder', but there were no cables routed through it??  Still wondering about the disc-thing.

Is this what you mean for cable holder? I just fitted it loose to take picture.
A pic of the othert part would aid in identification.

Yeesh, I took the picture before, but never uploaded.  Duh.  Yes, that's exactly like my cable holder, but mine didn't have any cables routed through it, leading to the original mystery.  The round thing doesn't show up on the exploded diagrams, and remains a mystery.

I had a CB175 (a long time ago)

Your cables should route through the cable holder, but it probably doesn't matter unless you want originality.  Sorry, never seen one of those other things before.

I'm rebuilding the whole front end, so I'll route everything properly during the reinstall, just because that's what Mr. Honda did.  The round thing seems to serve no purpose whatsoever.  However the underside of it (going from memory here...) seemed to allow for something to connect/mate up to it.  Some kind of indicator thing?  Four micro-holes - maybe four lights for indicating when to shift or what gear you're in? I seem to recall some mention about a shift-indicator somewhere or other...

That holds the igntion switch but I cant remeber the exact location. ( I think it should be on front left bolt with the big hole to left) Its a modification to move switch from under front of tank on late or side cover on early (pre 1970 at least) model. I havnt had a 175 since 1976 so I forget a few things. The clutch and brake cables should go through the holder.
  EDIT
I should have looked at a expanded picture, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Looks like someone put top off a salt shaker in the hole. 8) (lol)

If centre piece pops out and has small tangs on the back you can send it to me as it looks like the cover for clutch adjuster on early Yamahha 650 twin. lol
