The 77-78 K model tanks will fit the 77 A but they are identical in outward appearance so that doesn't help since they also have the fuel door. The "A" tank just has the fuel gauge sender under the fuel door while the K models do not. Earlier model tanks are shorter in overall length I believe, I know someone has done a tank swap here...

the cb 550 tank will also fit the 750A and it has a flip top without the door but holds 3.7 gallons not 4.5 gallons you have to get one before 76

I put my 550 tank on the 76 hondamatic and the 750 tank on my 550 the tunnel is the same on the 550 as the cb750 as a matter of fact the only difference in the frames is 2 extra support rails

I know it's an older thread, but I too would like to go with a "door-less" tank.  Any bolt-up options?

I am an idiot.  I was somehow reading the 550 tank had the door, but rereading the thread I see it does not.  Doh!   ;D

Well I've got a cb750k 74 tank I'm going to put on the auto. It's not direct fit..looks about 1 cm either side , not all the way, but will need some hammering. Will post pics when get around to it.

Will need new seat for the gap created, but worth it for me

Anybody have pics of the "correct" CB550K tank needed for the CB750A?  I bought what I was told was a "mid-70's CB550K" tank from ebay and tunnel is way too narrow so I have to assume it's a '76+ tank. :-\  The filler cap is on the right side of the tank, which confuses me as some of the tanks I'm seeing advertised as pre-'76 show the filler cap in the center.  Doesn't matter to me where the cap is, but I was hoping there's some feature I can look for in pics to know for certain I'm buying the right tank. ::)

Any help with what I need to look for would be really appreciated.  I've already made one costly mistake, would prefer not to make another...  :)

Thanks!

But you like the tank right?

if you place masking tape on inside of tank, press on frame, you may find it doesn't need much to fit?

I've only spent 5 min on mine and it's already close to fitting,

Like?  Yes.  Fit isn't even close though.  To fit the 750A, the tank tunnel needs to be about 8" (20cm) wide.  The tank I have is only about 4" (10cm) wide for the most part.   :(
