cleaning engine roller bearings?

Is there any reason I shouldn't clean the engines internal roller (not plain) bearings with degreaser?

How about kerosene ??,still has a nice petro base to it and cleans well.

I clean mine with aerosol brake cleaner, but more important, is the immediate application of oil to prevent rust.

I was concerned that there was rubber in there that I couldn't see that would deteriorate.

Yes, great for cleaning/degreasing small parts.
Heh, I buy it 4 or 5 cans at a time at Walmart. 
They probably think I'm a huffer.  ::)
