CB750F won't run after I bought the plates and insurance!
« on: April 30, 2006, 09:38:56 PM »
I put in new sparks, drained out the old fuel from the carb and gas tank, new battery, a very generous and knowledgeable friend spent four hours to rebuilt the carbs, I checked the gap on the points and triple checked everything when I put the carbs back in. Oh, I cleaned out the tank and I installed a fuel filter between the tank and the carb and yes it is going the correct way.

It actually ran strong and idled for about three minutes on it's own but now it just revs up and dies. I have to keep the throtle working. It is like it is starved for fuel. I was so sure today was the day that yesterday I got the insurance and plates!

I checked to make sure there was fuel getting through - removed one of the drain tubes and sure enough there's fuel in the bowls. The filter is bubling away when it does run.

Any ideas?? Thanks.

try checking for fouled plugs. its happened to me before

or you could have an outlaw on your hands. tell it you cancelled the insurance and that the tags are fake, see if that makes a difference  ;D ::)

Are you closing the choke to start the bike, and if so how quickly are you opening it after starting?

The reason I ask is that on my 750, I have to close the choke completely to start it and then immediately open it just a tiny bit or else it will stall.  Hopefully it's something as simple as that.

Maybe a kink in the fuel line / issue with the new fuel filter ???
Always look for the smallest/overlooked issue to be the problem , as it usually is....
tell it you cancelled the insurance and that the tags are fake, see if that makes a difference ;D ::)
That's too funny...... ;D

I have been ruminating (now there is a Monday morning word for ya) all morning and when I got home went in and pulled the plugs. Sure enough, fouled. Cleaned them and reinstalled them.

Pulled the bowl drain lines and opened them. Nothing. No gasoline. Went back to the filter and it is dry. Back to the pet cock, pulled the line and it runs gasoline. I am out of time but later will pull the fuel filter and check it is flowing and no kinks. May have to try a smaller one as the space is restricted and the turn in the fuel line may be too tight. Also will try the bowl drains to make sure I'm getting fuel. I assume under normal operating circumstances they are full.

Keep those ideas coming - everyone is right!

Another item to check - make sure you're not getting rust from the tank blocking fuel flow.

F tanks seem to rot badly and sediment can accumulate anywhere in the fuel path. Petcock, filter, idle jets etc.. can all suffer even  after being cleaned/reemed etc...
