Won bid on a '78 CB750
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:25:37 PM »
Just won a bid on a '78 CB750. I hope I didn't outbid anyone in this forum. If I did, sorry. The bike is in CT.
Picking it up on Saturday. I have 4 CB 550's but this is my first 750. I'm excited. Will send pictures when I get it.

Yes, that was the bike. The wife and I went up from LI to pick it up today. I'm very happy with it. Changed the battery and started right up and purred like a kitten. Only one problem!!! I can't get my leg over the seat. I'm 5' 7 1/2" and 29" inseam. I had to get on it like a horse. Foot on the peg and swing my leg up!!! Guess I won't be riding it in the future. Getting a new bike, having breakfast at Crackerbarrel, and finding my feet don't reach the pegs,
PRICELESS!!!!!!

Haha, A-men to that.  Im a merciless sniper on ebay.  If its something rare(and therefor usually expensive) and I want it, Ill set an alarm to bid seconds before it ends.  I can practically feel my heart jumping out of my chest within the last 10 seconds of an auction.

Can you lower the bike to fit you? Guys have done that by putting on a lowering kit, changing shocks, etc. I think I recall someone taking a 450 shock and putting it on a 750 for the correct height.

Maybe buy a cheap seat also, store the original if good, and see if you could mod the foam to make the ride height  lower also.

I have about a 30" inseam.  I fit on my K6 very well... so you must be close.  I suspect you could drop the bike enough to get comfortable.  Raise the tubes in triples and go with shorter rear shocks.

The man I bought it from was 6' so he might have raised it up. Does look high off the ground. Lots of ground clearance. I took pictures of it when I got it home yesterday. As soon as I download them, I will post.

I just looked at the bike and the trees are all the way up and the shocks are at the highest part. I have cb550 shocks that are an inch shorter and I will lower the forks.
Thanks for the help.

I'm in the same boat as you Doggie.  I'm lucky to have a 30 inch inseam, and I have a 78 F.  Although it's a bit tall for me it doesn't really bother me that much, I'm on the balls of my feet at stop lights.  I'm still thinking about carving up a new seat, all I need is another seat pan.

Your welcome to my old seat. I bought a new one. I have pictures downloaded but it says they are too big to post. Anyone know how to make them smaller? Great, the bikes too big and the pictures are too big. No wonder they call me Smurf at work!!!!
