Blinkers not blinking
« on: May 02, 2006, 06:40:17 AM »
They just light up but dont blink. What could be the problem? Fuse? Blinker Unit? Switch? I have to get this bike inspected this week so I have to fix this ASAP!

...are you using aftermarket turn signals???

If so...you need one of these:

http://www.customled.com/PRODUCTS/FLASHER_RELAY/flasher_relay.htm

or this

http://www.customled.com/PRODUCTS/THE_EQUALIZER/the_equalizer.htm

The 2nd link...you need a load equalizer at ever turn signal....so you need 4 of them.....easier to buy the flasher relay.

The old CB mechanical flasher units need a 12v load in order to flash and with the aftermarket low voltage bulbs they dont build enough of a load to make the unit flash. At least this is the way I understand it....being a non-electronic gooru.

Greg

If just one (front or back) lights up, check for a bad bulb or connection. If both on either side light up but don't blink, replace the flasher relay. They now make electronic flasher relays that just have two connections. I just installed one on my 550 and for less than 10 bucks, they can't be beat....

Thanks. Can I pick up a flasher relay at any parts store?

Also, where is the relay located on the bike?

On my 750 it's under the left (as sitting on the bike) side cover.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Actually, the original Honda ones were rectangular and marked "SIGNAL STAT".

check your battery also, if your battery is fried the signals will blink erratically, slowly, or not at all... especially while waiting at a light because the bike is not putting out enough electric at that time without the help of the battery.

The battery is brand new and seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the link Greg. I just ordered one for the CL.
If it works I'll get another one for the 750
