Suicidal Death Birds?...
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:09:47 PM »
Well, I was riding two up yesterday with a very tall(6'2" :o)girl named Ashley on the back.  We were cruising about 45mph down a quiet country lane around dusk when, out of the shadows, flies a bird...it continues directly towards my face up until I get the most up close and personal view of a Robin I've ever seen in my life.  I ducked it in the nick of time and was immediately concerned for Ashley sticking up a good 6 inches higher than me.  Fortunately the Robin managed to miss her too and when I pulled up at a nearby stop sign I discovered her finding it all very amusing and having the time of her life.  Anyway, I've often noticed birds flying alongside me as if playing but I've never had such a close call.  I've also hit two birds in the last week while riding...one off my right foot peg and one off my sidestand.  Never hit a bird before in ten years of riding...weird.  I was thinking...I just got a new modular helmet and it has some prominent wind whistles sometimes.  Could this somehow be attracting birds?...or have the birds turned to Lemmings... :o
If it works good, it looks good...

Last year I was riding my road bicycle down a really big hill. I was up to 38mph and said to myself, "s#!t i'm going really fast!" At that instant, a bird flew right into my front spokes. It was an explosion of feathers. Im just greatful it didnt  lock up the front wheel or something :o  Im sure the bladed spokes helped...

I was up in Maine this weekend on the relay.  I was riding last in line and all three of us were behind a blue car.  Some turkey-sized bird flew in front of the car and pulled a major aerobatic maneuver to save itself.  When John (Tree who was second in line) got up to the point where the first bird came out of the woods, other bird, a giant pileated woodpecker flew out and right in front of me at chest level.  It went about 3 feet in front of me..  I imagined myself laying on the side of the road with my bike in flames and a woodpecker beak stuck in my eye socket.

Since I did 500 miles last weekend on my 750, I decided that I would cheat and take my Interceptor on the 1000 mile round trip.  My hands and butt are fine.  The seat did get a little bothersome in the rain but it was fine.  I've got to stop wearing cotton on long trips.

What sort of bird is Beaky?
Looks like a cross between a magpie and a crow.
Just curious.

I've been riding dirt bike before and rabbits run right in my path.  One ran in front of me for awhile like we were racing.  Good thing I had the awesome drum brakes of an XR200. :o

Hit 2 and probably scared one to death.

Maybe the woodpecker beak in your eye wouldn't be the worst thing. It might  not kill you in itself.

Ravens might come to dine.  Like a moose carcass, get what you want off it with your four guys early in the morning, the day old ones seem to turn to just bone pretty quick.

I squashed a turtle on my 900F in October of 2008.  I was running down an FM road doing who knows (the speedo only went to 85 and it was pegged).  There was a crest in the middle of a slight right- handed curve and right there in the shade of a tree was an ~8 inch wide turtle.  Ran right over his little retarded A$$.  I thought I'd go down but nope, that heavy old 900 just flattened it and kept going.  Made a cool crushing sound as it happened!

FM roads are the greatest, but without the right map you never know where you will end up.

No traffic, good un broken pavement, perhaps chuck-hole free, and friendly folks all along them. If it weren't for those goddam turtles and muffhuggin' armadillos it could be perfect.

The day before I hit up my 3500 mile trip, I broke down and got a set of some really nice Alpinestar Scout riding boots. On day 2 of my trip while riding across WY, a robin sized bird took off the side of the highway and tried to fly away. However, the wind was blowing so hard, it pushed the bird right into the left leg. Still hurt with the boots!

these "butcher birds"get tame easily, this one comes in the house and has a look around, the dog just watches it,they always smash what you feed them on the ground to kill it.

Carolina Wrens like to explore houses given the opportunity. My friend had a nest in the house after leaving the door open for his dog. I had one flying around in the house a week agoIt beat itself against windows for about two hours. I  opened the door and I hope it got out, if not it's in the sill toasted in the sun by now.

I was living in a hillbily shack several years ago and one flew in and started nesting in a cup. I figured leave it be, and do some time lapse video of it.  It was gone one day, the clutch no longer there. WHen I checked the tape , I realized there was a snake making it into the house, too.
