What would make you sell your treasured SOHC/4?
« on: July 29, 2011, 03:23:06 AM »
OK guys and gals I know we all love our Honda's, but other than a family tragedy or being out of work and needing money to keep your home or put food on the table what would make you turn the keys over to someone else. What ever you have in your bike be it $500 or $5000 or maybe even more would you automatically let it go if someone out of the blue showed up at your door and offered you a large cash profit or is the enjoyment and fun the bike gives you more important or is the $$$ the only thing that matters.

I am trying to sell my 650 because I realize I do not need two bikes and my garage is too full.  Nothing could make me sell my 550.  I love that bike

If someone wanted to buy my bike off of me, he would need real deep pockets. It would be pretty much the same as selling one of my kids.

If I ran across a good deal on another Harley, but this time a 2005~2007 Deuce with the second generation fuel injection (with oxygen sensors) I'd sell all three Hondas in a heartbeat to finance it if I had to.  I think, in terms of quality of materials and construction*, these are among the best production bikes made during my lifetime and to my eye the Harley Davidson Deuce is hands down the best looking bike the Motor Company or any other motorcycle manufacturer ever made.

And as I put on my flame suit I just keep in mind that the howlers are almost always young ditto-heads who have never so much as sat on a late model Harley, let alone owned one and put a few tens of thousands of miles on it.

* Honda's quality of construction probably equals Harley's but not their materials and finish (chrome and paint).

 Everything has it's price.

A few years ago, the Japanese were paying STUPID money for air cooled VW's, especially Cal-Look style hot-rods and Buses. My Dad and I used to joke about our "Japanese Collector" price. If someone is willing to pay stupid money for it, let 'em have it. You can always buy just what you want or finance your dream project.

One caveat: If there is major sentimental value, just keep it.

Money.  I have six bikes for sale as of now.  For me the fun is the build, hopefully sell for a fair price and go on to the next build...Larry

If I were no longer able to ride it. I would rather have her out on the road with someone else than rotting in my garage.

I have seen this happen to perfectly nice bikes. Makes a person sad. As for me I am enjoying the two bikes I have but I have been buying and enjoying bikes for a half century now and there are still lots of bikes I would like to ride. I only have room for two....sooooo who knows? I do try to make sure that the bikes are better when they leave than when I got them.

One million dollars (negotiable)  ;D

Realistically, would probably take a cash offer near the high end of fair market value, maybe $1800.00 to $2500.00 for a well kept 78' CB750K. Runs well, needs nothing, looks good, ride it home. Did my 650 'Zilla miles on it back in March.

I don't know.  Even collectively, my bikes really aren't worth that much.  If I could sell one to pay off a credit card debt, car loan or something in full I'd consider doing it.  But just to pocket market value for my bikes, no.

My 350F was my first bike.  Got it for a fair price and did the best i could at making it roadworthy and clean while keeping it close to stock.  Fell in love with it over the years while working on it.  I have grand thoughts about holding on to it to pass on to my son, but who knows if he wants it. He's only 8.
It really is too small for me, but i love it, and its a lot of fun to ride.
Unsolicited, i'd consider a cash offer around $2500.
...and i'd have to go right out looking for another.

Absolute minimum of $25K for my K1.  Even then I would still have to give it some thought, but since that's not going to happen I don't really have to worry about it and can just continue enjoying my bike. :)

ive put my 750 on cl before. it broke my heart just to put it up there. i needed money for a security deposite on an appartment. about 2 hours after putting up on CL i asked a few friends if i could borrow money. i did and i took it off CL that day. i payed my awesome friends back over a couple of weeks. ive had a couple of finacial hardships where ive sold some things.. but my bike stays. we've been through too much. someone would have to offer me waaayy to much money for it. (like "cafe" craigslist and ebay bike prices ;) )

I'd have to really be desperate to unload mine. I've owned it going on 12 yrs. and have grown quite attached to it. I think I would give it to one of my sons if I couldn't ride any more instead of selling it. That way ....its still around for me to gawk at!!! 8) I really don't think I could bear to see someone riding it out of my driveway.
