Anybody ever have a CT-70?
« on: July 29, 2011, 06:45:30 AM »
Any old school MiniTrail bikers in here?
I collect and restore these old Honda's too.  8)
It still brings a smile to my face when I ride it  ;)
Both of these Bikes are the rare 4-speed models only made in KO & K1 versions.

My grandpa brought me and my brother a pair of Trails when I was 10, all the way from Alaska! I'll always remember when he arrived; one bik in the trunk and one strapped to the hood of the '74 Duster. I wore mine out, but I still have it and looking for a motor. Also have my brother's which still runs well but ready for a restore. the mobility they offered for a 10 year old!

Let me know if you need any help finding parts for those CT's. It's  so cool you still have em after all these years. I was promised one back in the early 70's by my Dad. He use to take me to the Honda shop all the time on SUNDAY to pick one up. (Of course he knew the shop would be closed) so I never had one until I was 46 years young  ;) It's never too late as long as your still breathing, right?

My brother's bike is identical to the blue 4 speed; mine is a burnt orange 3 speed auto.

Cool,  8) there are as many parts available for the CT-70's as there are for our beloved CB's!

Yeah bjatwood what great memories that little bike brings back. Here's a picture of my CT-70 or more popular name Mini Trail 70 in my parents family room. Year had to be 1970 or 71. This was my first Honda and it was a 3 speed automatic. I had a lot of fun on that Honda :) I traded it in on a 1971 SL175.

Awesome! Early KO CT70 in Candy Ruby Red, and if you look closley it even looks like it has the early production Black Plastic Brake levers. You can probably imagine why HONDA switched to aluminum levers instead of plastic!  :-[ :P

Who thought that these CT's would be worth the money they are now days. If I remember I think mine was around $400 brand new. My Mom had a 69 Pontiac Catalina and she hauled that CT 70 all over town taking me to friends houses to ride. Fold down the handle bars and it would fit in the back seat of that Pontiac. Had a bad crash on it when me and my friend ran into each other. He didn't get a scratch, but I spend the next 2 weeks in the hospital recovering. Lesson learned at 14 years of age always wear a helmet.

Yeah! It was a great Bike to ride when I was a kid. We use to ride all day long from Shoreview, MN to Forest Lake, MN and everyplace in between. It was the only bike I ever sold that I had. Wish I still had it to be honest. Enclosed is a photo of the old motorcycle gang with me on my trusty gold CT70.

There is quite a "Cult" following for the Mini Trails, and even the little Z50's are worth a bunch of money these days. I recently sold a "mint" all original 1974 K3 Candy Orange Topaz Mini Trail to a fellow in Florida for just under 3K. He has a collection and wanted a 74 Mini Trail. The 74's were the Kings of Bling when it came to Chrome on a Mini Trail.

how different was the st70?a mate used to have a ct70 we couldnt destroy,we all had bigger bikes like dt400s and it465,we used to take the ct70 camping as a joke,it caused more skin of knuckles etc than any of the big bikes,we once got seven guys on the thing at once!. i rebuilt an st70 motor a few years ago,the ct had three gears down, the st had like one down then two up or visa versa?i cant find any old pictures of the "dax" as they were called here.,we ended up welding normal dirt bike cross braced bars on it.,edit, found a picture.

Dave, Cool pics. I do believe the ST70 was the Universal/Global Version from Japan of the CT-70. One of the differences might have been a center kick stand and a crank off styled front end for transportation. These bikes are virtually bulletproof, evidence is how many are still around after 40+ years of beatings, LOL
