Raced a Hyabusa along a straight stretch of barren highway here in Indiana.  I was going 128 MPH and he was easily pulling away.  Did I mention I was flying 50 feet above a corn field alongside the road in a 47 Stinson? I have done a "two ton" plus many times, but never on the ground.  Did I mention deer? :-)

the ton..... been there, not to special to me....sixthwi....where were you for the relay?

You're right, I should have been there..
To be honest, I was not really following it too closely until very recently. If we do it next year, I will def get involved with it.

Been to the Ton once on my 650.  Don't have any interest in returning.  Just spooky fast!  You really start to feel like a small insect holding on for dear life praying that nothing will step out!  And we have some big F***** moose here that LOVE to stop in the road.

Now in my Yaris I've been up to about 105-110 with ease.  Definitely a different feeling having a nice solid frame around you.

A Yaris is safe at 110? Solid? What you got there son is a sense of perceived security and that vaporizes quickly on impact.

No kidding, I see no correlation between those terms either- Yaris- 110mph- solid.  ;D

Are you guys in the USA familiar with the english austin mini?
My old one was heavily modified, but had 125mph out of it (probably more like 115 or so in real terms), the sudden feeling i got of how unprotected i was in such a small car with a fiberglass front made me back of pretty quickly after though!

As for on bikes, had an indicated 98 from my old kawasaki AR125 when i was a kid, felt fine, but i was 17 and fearless.

145 on the back of my friends FZ750 didnt feel so great though.

My cb750 isnt on the road yet, whether it ever see's 100mph or not is debatable, the bit in mad max where goose's rear wheel locks up at speed scares me ;D

140 + or - on the gauge of a 1987 RX7 homebrew turbo setup running 11psi (spiked to ? when blown  :'( )  stock who knows how old N/A suspension, N/A stock brakes.... felt like it wanted to sprout wings.

Faster in my buddies custom twin turbo 1988 RX7 too fast, incredibly scarey, never do it again fast, in the passenger OH #$%* seat.

haven't done over 100 in the BMW... speeding tickets are way too expensive and I don't need to die at the hand of some ricer in a celica/civic/wrx who thinks going fast and living forever go hand in hand.

only hit 85 on the 550 ... first bike, dont trust it, still working the kinks out.
" Why does anyone get offended by what someone does to their own bike? I dont get it. "

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.
Every time any owner strips whatever precious Honda part the horrified purists parts go up in value. That's not the part that bothers them.
What bothers them is they sat up late at night, their breast full of wonder and estrogen, unable to sleep, dreaming about their lovely darling and all her glory... and next thing you know someone else doesn't share their emotional deluge and their reaction is they must spread their mind museum as far as they possibly can, taking over as much of the real world as possible.

I know, I know, Yaris = little death trap.  But hey, it saves me a ton on gas which can be put into this delightful motorcycle hobby! :D And most of my commuting in it is the 55-65mph range anyway.  I've taken it up past 100 only twice, but I was pretty surprised by how it handled.  A lot better than I expected...

Now my old broncoII, that thing was SCARY at high speeds.  It'd start shaking at about 70, and 85 felt like it was going to fly apart any moment!  Did I mention the lack of airbags, cracked glass, the frayed seatbelts?  Ahh, memories...

Keeping with teh old car theme, this was my old 1949 ford (if image link works)

Wooden floors, 1L sidevalve engine, crossply tyres, no seatbelts, cable brakes and 'vintage' stearing :)

After a fair bit of engine work i had 85mph out of it. Had a little more to give, but was pinking its tits off so backed it down.

Thought some of you may like the pic :)

Errr, no. 1949, Ford Anglia.

UK ford  ;)

I guess my friends 1929 model A in the background may have made it look like a pic taken in the USA?

I really should add my location to my profile :)

Thought a ton was 2000 lbs?!

Unless you're in Canada in which case it's 1000 Kg. Well my bike is about 173 Kg dry, so it seems I've got a long way to go... ;)

and yes, that photo is random.

And as for top speed, the maximum legal speed limit in this part of the country is 100kph. So that'd have to be my answer. Besides, the wind buffetting at highway speeds is bad enough. Makes me long for new head bearings. And maybe a steering damper. And maybe new shocks. And wheel bearings. And swingarm bushings...

Here is my front fork brace from "Fast from the Past".
Fit relatively well but with the brace fully seated down on the fork shoulder, It rubbed on the tire.
I raised it slightly and its fine. It doesn't need much movement for clearance.

Its a nice piece...

Dug my front fender out and may cut it down and re-install. We'll see.

I did 110 a couple weeks ago And she felt solid. I don't care to do it a gain without a fairing tho.. Just wanted to do it really - it was a good road on a good day (:

Tires gain diameter  at speed.  Be sure to check the tire does not rub.   Think of a drag car, the tire grows when the light turns.  Maybe your tire will not grow, but be aware!

Put the rear wheel back on.

Am I missing something here? I've put the proper torque from the manual, seems the cotter pin will have no purpose.

You must be missing a spacer if you torqued it down that much.

You are right, thought I was in another post area......................sorry.

Thanks Dukiedook. But, as previously stated have done the TON several times in my life and prolly will stay under it considerably for the rest of my life.

Have no need to go that fast any more. "less I decide to rob a bank.................................which, with this economy.......may be sooner than expected...! ;)

It all depends on your comfort level. If you don't get scared your brain will slow down time ask any pro racer. I have gone 186 but can only prove 150 GPS

In 1972 I put an American Turbo Pak kit on anew CB500. I then proceeded to redline the tach in high gear. Over the years I've had that turbo on 3 or 4 different 500/550s. It has spent the last 25 years or so in a box but now I'm in the middle of putting it back on the road on a CB500K2. My avatar is a pic of where my progress stands at the moment.

Nice Anglia, definitely a fan. Here's a couple shots of my 59. Left hand drive...front end and body are original...that's about it.

Waved goodbye to the 1.3L engine and opted for a 289 mustang engine...bored out to a 302 with high compression pistons.

Have to replace the front end, finish the wiring, and install a fuel tank to get her on the road again. Running open headers right now, so I may address that as well...she's a little loud. She was running 10.8 quarter miles last time on the track...I'm hoping to get her under 10.5 when I'm done.

Best gift my dad ever gave me...hoping to blow the doors off his 32 Ford when I'm finished. :)
