Recently pinned the throttle and speedo read 135mph

74 CB750k

Ran it for a mile over 100mph.

Was that dumb, or am I just lucky? Because everyone is making it seem like you should be dead for going that fast.. To me the bike felt very comfortable.

I went about 45-50mph on my 49cc scooter last night. I find that far more terrifying than higher speeds on motorcycles. Way I figure it the scooter (tires, frame, suspension, brakes) is designed to go 30, my CB500 is designed to go at least twice that!

The scooter is dead stock, I do not know why they made them capable of such speeds in something that is supposed to be what teenage girls commute to high school with. I weigh 250lbs. I wonder how fast it would go with the 125lb Japanese guy it was designed for riding it.

Your speedo is off, top speed on a stock 750 is about 120mph.

If I can cruise at 115 on my Buell then any of you should be fine on a cb. Nice 750 btw! My buddy has a gps confirmed 198 on his modded 08 gsxr1000. That to me seems insanity at its finest especially on local highways.

Ok you guys are bursting my bubble. I drive to work every morning and i have hit the ton twice, but on my speedo whick i think is off. I have a 5 mile quiet stretch of highway in the middle of nowhere that i open it up on.  Since i have the new main jets exhaust and uni air filter my bike is quicker, but still from 90 on it dies ( maybe i need to be under 2tons ..200lbs). I hit 101 last week but honestly I think at that point I was going downhill. One of my coworkers has a yamaha f4 and he clocked me at 96 . .I think if i re-geared the bike i would have a higher top end. But im real quick from 25 to 70

And the ton is no big deal, i had a vespa that could go 80.

132mph (GPS) laying flat on the tank on the 1800 VTX a couple of years ago, just to see, then the asphalt started getting a little uneven so I backed off.  Bike speedo indicated about 136. That was close to top out.  On the 550 when I was a lot trimmer (lighter) and had the frame mounted vetter on it I got to 108 on the meter.  That was before GPS's were invented so I can't give a corrected speed.

Hit it for the first time this weekend. Going about 80, reached a very straight stretch in the road, and just decided to hut the throttle. Got to 105, called it quits, and backed off. Wanted to see what the ol' girl could do, but probably wont be doing it again.

So I answered my own question here...
Fast from the Past has one for $99.
#22-0014
Here is the link:
http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-480/Fork-Brace-Honda-CB500K/Detail

So I ordered up this brace.
I'll post when installed with pics.
We'll see when the run happens...
Some say this is no big deal on these bikes but I think it is a very big deal!

I've had my 1975 Trans Am to atleast 135 MPH and still had a VW Rabbit on my tail flashing his lights. This was done on an Autobahn in Germany in 1985.

Last time I went that fast was on my Harley in 2008 (130 MPH) going thru the Okeefenookie swamp in Georgia. I was white knuckled the whole way. Kept seeing vision of a possum or aligator coming out in the road.

Am finished with the high speeds, once I get one or the other of my Hondas on the road. They will be riden with care..........................................

NOT..........................................!!!!..................................maybe.

back in 97, 164mph in a 65.. lost license for 15 days and 2700 in fines.
I got the copy of the ticket from the state trooper who lasered me around here somewhere.  Yeah i was a dummy in my younger years.

I understand that 100 mph + is fast in a car.
But really, any sedan can do that cruising on the freeway with ease.
I have a 2001 C5 Corvette that will hit 100mph+ with a slight blip of the throttle and I have done that regularly. I have seen north of 125 mph with little fuss.

Many of the newer super bikes are awesome performers that will dust my Corvette with ease.

I am riding a 1974 550cc bike with little more than a big bicycle frame.
The "TON" to me is a big accomplishment on this bike.
Its also scary as S&#t!

I'm having fun reading this thread so keep the post coming!
I think I need to design a "Ton Up SOHC" patch!

5 car rolling road block.. you stop.

the sheriff leading the block got me at a hundredsomething, i forget.  The trooper didn't get there till we were already pulled over on the side of the road.

The scariest part of the whole ordeal is that when i hit the brakes when i saw roadblock, nothing happened.. the lines boiled from the heat of the engine.  I had to pump em a good 3 times before i got any slowdown.

Funny, at least to me, go fast story. Years back, I had my '77 Toyota Celica (remember what POS's they were) completely wound out on a long, long downhill stretch. My buddy asked how fast we were going. I looked down at the speedo and said, "We're going "M". The speedo topped at 80 MPH, and there was no stop for the needle. I had wrapped the needle all the way around to the "M" in MPH -- and almost back to zero.

Ha! Took my road test at 16 on a home done turbo charged Celica. Didn't go well ::)
Oh, the Ton..... when ever........don't be scared ;D

Sixthwisconsin.  I am not sure how to take that.  Damn internet sarcasm lag.

Just so we're all clear, I do NOT carry a ballpeen on my handlebars.  Merely quoting a post from a recent thread.

Quote
I ride in an aggressive/defensive manner to make my presence known to other drivers
and keep a small ball peen hammer clipped to the bars for the #$%*s who try to kill me on the road. bust enuf windshields and those drivers will watch for bikes from then on.

I think DJ was following the same thread as he later went on to say that he uses water ballons filled with oil as weapons as well.

That being said. I AM A MADMAN. I WILL keep posting.  Much to the dismay of the Old Timers  :o

So if you can already do 88 mph why not just add a flux capacitor? Then you can arrive at your destination before anybody, every single time.
