intake rubbers
« on: May 02, 2006, 06:10:14 AM »
I've been putting the carbs back in my k4 750 after rebuilding.  Note that I bought this bike still running but in bad shape, this being my first bike I'm confused on how some parts were supposed to fit being they are over 30 y/o.  The intake boots are loose fitting inside the airbox.  Is there supposed to be a gasket between the airbox around rubbers before they attach to the carbs?  Surely they don't fit loose like this.  What do you do to fix this?

One more question.  The bike came with no vent tubes on the carbs.  If I were to attach new vent tubes where would I run the lines to?

thanks

There should be a slotted flange to fit boots into airbox. There may or may not be a sealant around them as well. ( it looked like tyre cement/contact adhesive originally) As for the breather routing, I dont know, been too long since I did one but they are a good thing to have fitted.

If you are talking about the vent tubes connected between the carbs, these drape over the top of airbox on mine. In case you are talking about the drain tubes, these a bundled and run across and down the back of then engine lower.

Thanks,

so I'm supposed to gum up some sealant / calk around each boot flange to seal up the air box.  Sounds messy, they don't make gaskets?

yes, I was referring to the vent tubes coming out of carb 2 and 3.  I'll drape the lines over the airbox.  thanks

I never did. Sounds like if you did, removing them would be a problem.

Brand new airbox boots fit snug in the holes. I've found that these tend to shrink a bit over the years and start to fit sloppy. New ones are still available and as an added bonus it makes them easier to mount the airbox back on the bike as the boots are soft and pliable.

If you have the part number, try ServiceHonda or something like that, or your local Honda dealer where they should be able to look it up for you on fiche and order it. I got a new set for mine (K0) about two years ago. May well be the same part for all or most of the 750's.
