Mac 4-1 exhaust comparison
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:48:47 PM »
Niche supply and Biker Supply house both carry a 4-1 Mac exhaust system but they are slightly different.  I am most interested in the angle of the exhaust tip.  I prefer the steeper angle too the tip.  Both systems connect in different places so it's hard to tell if they have similar angles or not.  They both also are different where the 4 pipes converge.  Has anyone bought these particular exhaust systems from these vendors before?  Any pictures of them on your bike you could post? Here are some pics to compare.  The first picture is the one Biker Supply offers and the second is Niche supply. Thanks in advance

I just bought the muffler only from Dennis Kirk. It hasn't arrived yet but I will put up a picture when I get it and have it mounted up.

If no one can post, you can see the majority of MAC's exhausts mounted at www.macperformance.com

Thanks for the link.  This one looks like the one that Niche carries.  I forgot to mention before that the first picture I posted is what Biker Supply sent me to work on my 76 550K.  But the ebay ad it was sent from says it's for the cb550 F.  Will this work on either bike?

Here is my cb550K0
Mac 4 into 1 canister. I plan to have it ceramic coated over the winter.

I'm glad that somebody makes these systems, I just want more. MAC could take it to the next level and offer them ceramic coated and give you you the choice of baffles. I added the performance baffle and is much better sound than stock. Ran it straight pipe but it is not that streetable... Its loud as hell!
I like the the performance baffle.

The upper one looks like the Jardine system I found for a 650.    Like it except the oil from the filter goes right to the collector.   Happy with my macs also.

Here are a coupla pics of it mounted. I think it looks awesome like a Kerker megaphone except the baffle is different looking and too quiet for my taste. I'd have to do some measuring to be sure but it looks like a guy could remove that baffle and stuff a Kerker up in there instead.

What do you mean by performance baffle? I have whatever came in mine (MAC 4-1 for a CB500...can't even remember where I got it. Dennis Kirk, I think..). I actually like the sound. What's the deal with a "performance baffle"?

Yeah......look at the Super Trapp website. The baffles come in 2 or 3  different versions. I had the cone  and baffle from the 2" version in my old ratty lookin' Kerker and I also have the cone only from a 2-1/2" version. Without the baffle in that one......she's purty damn loud!!!

A buddy has a CB750 with a SuperTrapp muffler on a MAC header; sounds awesome! But I kinda got the idea that Sixthwisconsin was talking about a MAC optional baffle (?).

Mine came on my bike(F3), so I don't know where it came from? I had to paint the heads though.

This one has the slide mount, not the triangle mount.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Are they changing or is it a choice?

I'm not sure but I do know you can't just buy the can only from Supertrapp (Kerker). You have to buy the whole pipe....header & all. I'm glad Mac came up with this one and it was only around $150 from Dennis Kirk. Now if I can just swap out that overly quiet baffle for a Kerker with the cone shaped tip....I'll be a happy camper. Just have to take some measurements.

Sorry, forgot to follow the thread and missed your reply.
Here is the performance baffle from MAC:

Here is a comparo of the original on the left vs. the performance baffle. It sounds much better!

I have a "performance" baffle in my no name Kerker Knock Of exhaust ..it was kind of loud for my taste so I wrapped it in muffler fiberglass.  Its perfect now.

That was my next question for Sixthwisconsin.....did you wrap yours?

I guess you just drill out the rivet and bolt in the other baffle?

You got it...
Drill out the rivet, pull out the baffle and plug in the new one. It fit like it was made for it (it was!) You might need to pull the entire tail and use a broom stick to pound out the baffle. 5 minute job and you are right, I used a nut and bolt to re-attach. Makes it easier if I want to pull it for track days or just to annoy my neighbors, Tee hee...

Oh, I forgot, no rapping... I like old school rock.
