Topic: How much would you expect to pay for a custom steel gas tank?

How much do custom, hand made, steel gas tanks cost?  Obviously it would depending on the complexity, but what are some ball park figures?

having had no experience with purchasing custom made tanks...I would be ready to pay upwards of $500 for a simple tank being hand made,and closer to a $1000 for something more involved.
Metal working is not easy,or cheap,and takes many hours to achieve smoothness that is acceptable to the craftsmen doing the job.most of them are perfectionists,and if they arent satisfied with the quality it wont leave their shopuntil it  does.

I wouldn't even dream about a steel tank unless it was stainless, THINK rust. Aluminum is much lighter.
If you are looking at it being a cheaper option than aluminum It's not.
The price difference of materials is next to nothing when compaired to the amount of work that goes into it.

Buy a stock Honda tank for the bike that you are working on. ($25-$100) Or trade with some one in the forum for one. Buy a $15 rubber mallet and search through the forum on making knee dents. It is a good experience, cheap.....and done. No BS, no $1000 alloy tank for a $300 bike. No $600 fiberglass race tank for a 40HP bike.

I don't actually want to get one, and I can't really get into the details of why I am asking.  You could probably infer my reasoning by looking through my build thread.

I currently have a bcr tank, which is the exact design that I want.  Aluminum tanks are a bit more at bcr than steel ones, otherwise it would have been aluminum.
