Picked up another SL-350 today
« on: August 01, 2011, 04:39:12 PM »
It's a 70 K1 but the pipes are excellent and there are other bits I need for the 71.
Has one good side cover and the air boxes. I hope to use the air boxes some how or other
on the 71, the brakes and all work great. Motors froze. Clutch releases and engages.
So, I'll have to swap the side cover for a pair of good ones from a 71.

I like the way the seat hinges back though the 71 goes to the side.

Hey Robert, cool find.  8)  If you do swap out the side covers,IF they will fit (the frames different, you know), be sure to take special care of the old '70 side cover. Those things are scarce and command high prices.  ;)

Hey Robert, I got to thinking about your SL  and realized you were calling it a K1. I just wanted to let you know that the SL350K0 was the only one to have that frame, CV carburetors, those side covers and the electric starter. The K0 was produced in '69 & '70, then the K1 came with changes and was produced in ;70 & '71 and then the K2 in '72 & '73

Here's a link that you might find interesting. You've gotten a K0, which has SOME value to it, but parts like those side covers, can be pretty pricey. On the good side, the K0 shares a number of parts with the CB/CL350, while the SL350 K1 & K2 have some parts that are unique to them only. BTW, some XL250 and 350 frame, fork parts & wheels will work on the SL350K2 & K3.

Also, the fenders are different, from each different model of the SL350.

I still have a soft spot in my head for the SL350.  I had 3 '71s, the best year for the SL I always thought. It had the double down tube frame, slide carbs, and dispensed with the unnecessary electric start.  It had a great motor, if a little lacking in the longevity department.   I could easily make it up hillclimbs that the two-strokes would struggle with.  I rode my first one all over the Pacific Northwest and into Canada back in the '70's.  It was my touring bike, trail bike, commuter, and I even raced it a few times.  I had a '64 DuoGlide at the same time, but the SL got far more use on road trips because I could always count on it.  Not to mention if I saw a dirt road on the way I was curious about I could check it out with no fuss.  I still have some parts stashed away somewhere in case I run into another one cheap.

BTW, for those who might have looked here and noticed that I didn't put the link on for the SL350s, I had forgotten to do do and went back and corrected it. Sorry bout that. But IF you all will look, you will see that Honda made considerable changes to the SL from 1 model to the next, to try and save it, but didn't happen. They even added a 21" front wheel, dropped the rear wheel to an 18" and added aluminum fenders on the K2 .

Dave, I asked about the Repsol bike in this thread, http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=92703.msg1040372#msg1040372
Seems he was to busy cutting down trees with your chain saw and pumping up his muscles to reply. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Robbie, has no one told you, we need trees more than they need us, take up another profession. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

oh lord, sam has good eyes. Yep, that's Jordan's CBR600f4i lurking back there in the dark.
He got some Repsol fairings for it and I painted up his tank.

Bill, I have a 71 SL 350 also and that's the one I'm using what parts I can off this 70 to fix.
First bike was a 71 SL 350 so there is why. ;) I can use the axles, swing arm and maybe even use the
71 head pipes with the 70 mufflers and get it to work out right. So, I'll be parting out what bits don't interchange.

Robert, I wish you the best, with getting the best by using parts from the other one. Yeah, I knew your other one was a '71 too. You have a good one,  Bill
